Services for M. R. (Meb) Givens, 84, of Crosbyton, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 1986 in the Pansy Baptist Church with Rev. Preston Beeks of Odessa and Rev. R. C. Hester officiating.
Burial followed in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home.
Mr. Givens died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, November 27, 1986 in the Crosbyton Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born October 5, 1902 in Paris, Texas and married Lena Starrett September 19, 1936 in Crosbyton. He was a former truck driver and a farmer. He was a member of the Pansy Baptist Church. He moved to this area in 12919 from Paris. He had lived in the Pansy Community since 1940.
Survivors included: Wife: Lena Givens of Crosbyton; 3 sons, Dr. Teddy Givens of Floydada, Preston W. Givens of Spur, and Mickey M. Givens of Crosbyton; 7 grandchildren.
Active Pall Bearers were T. W. Stockton, Jr., Jack Thornhill, Kelton Winegar, Kenneth Havens, Noble Hunsucker, Rick Sudduth.
Honorary Pall Bearers were Compton Cornelius, Dewey Whalen, A. R. Marley, Osmer Vaughn, Harold Trull, Ronald Hardin, John Burrow.

CROSBYTON Lena Starrett Givens, 97, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Graveside services will be held at the Crosbyton Cemetery Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. under the care of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
Lena was the 12th child born to Mary (Leatherwood) Starrett and Samuel Franklin Starrett on February 15, 1915. She was born, raised and lived on the same plot of land in the Broadway community until 2005 when she moved to Crosbyton and resided at Reeves-Rhoades assisted living center where she quickly developed many new friendships. She was a 1934 graduate of Crosbyton High School. Lena worked for Associated Cotton Growers at the Wake office from age 75 to 85, where she became interested in technology using the Telcot computers and continued that interest until her death by sending e-mail and communicating on Facebook.
Lena married Melvin R. Givens in 1936 and raised three sons in the Broadway community. Their sons and daughters-in-law, Teddy and Sue Givens of Lincoln Neb., Preston and Cinda Givens of Spur, Texas, and Mickey and Kathy Givens of Crosbyton; blessed them with seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Lena spent her productive life with devout faith in the Lord. She was a member of the Broadway Club, Pansy Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Crosbyton.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters; five brothers; her husband, Meb; and one daughter-in-law, Kathy Givens. She leaves behind an amazing legacy of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many relatives, and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Leatherwood School Scholarship Fund 316 S Grain St Crosbyton, TX 79322.
