Biography

Raymond Lewis Eldredge was born on August 31, 1915, in Dickens, Texas. Johnnie Magdalene Cherry was born on March 10, 1913, in Oklahoma. Raymond and Johnnie were married on May 17, 1936, she was 23. She died on October 22, 1989, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 76.

On May 27, 1990, he married his second wife, Beulah May Phifer, in Carson City, Nevada. Raymond died on September 16, 2003, in Crosbyton, Texas, at the age of 88.

Services for Johnnie Cherry Eldredge, 76, of Crosbyton were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 1989 in Crosbyton Church of Christ with Jim York, minister, officiating.He was assisted by Joseph Johnston, minister of White River Church of Christ. Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

She died at 5:26 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 1989 in Lubbock´s Methodist Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Oklahoma. She graduated from McAdoo High School and attended West Texas College. She married Raymond Eldredge in 1936 in Lorenzo, and she moved from McAdoo to Crosbyton in 1973. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Johnnie Raye Johnson of White River; two sons, M.O. "Bub" of McAdoo and Raymond Cherry of Higgins; three sisters, Inez Brian of Brownwood, Sarah Jane Kidwell of Lorenzo, and Jessie B. McDougal of Lockesburg, Ark.; two brothers, Mel Cherry of Lorenzo and Herman Cherry of Las Animas, Colo.; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Norman Hardy, Jim Perryman, Adon Saenz, Glen Jones, Joe McGlaun, T.J. Taylor and Dee Cash.

Services for Raymond Eldredge, 88, of Crosbyton were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at the Crosbyton Church of Christ with Terry Ellison and the Rev. Robby Harris officiating. Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

He died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003 at IHS Hospital in Lubbock. He was born Aug. 31, 1915 in Floyd County, Texas to Jim David and Minnie Ola West Eldredge. He was a 1932 graduate of McAdoo High School. He married Johnnie Magdalene Cherry on May 17, 1936 in Lorenzo. She preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 1989. He then married Beulah Woodridge in 1990.

He was a member of the Crosbyton Church of Christ, McAdoo Gin Coop Board, the McAdoo School Board and the McAdoo Ex-Students Association. He was a farmer and rancher and moved to Crosbyton in 1973 from McAdoo.

Survivors include his wife, Beulah of Crosbyton; two sons, M.O. "Bub" Eldredge and his wife, Mary of McAdoo and Raymond Cherry Eldredge and his wife, Willie of Wellman; a daughter, Johnnie Raye Johnson and her husband, Duane of White River Lake, Texas; four grandchildren, Ronald Duane Johnson of Grapevine, Traci Ann Eldredge Yeager of Wellman, Karin Sue Eldredge Stephens of Lubbock, Amy D´Aun Eldredge Caddell of Ralls; five great-grandchildren, Shelby and Dustin Johnson, Terrell and Tanner Yeager and Dylan Caddell.
