Mrs. Lillie Pearl Edwards, who along with her late husband, helped cut a road up the caprock when they moved to this community 52 years ago, was buried last Thursday afternoon in Crosbyton Cemetery.

A grandson, the Rev. Ronnie Marley of Austin, conducted memorial services at 2 p.m. that day in First Baptist Church. The Rev. Bobby Rine, pastor of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Stanley Nixon of Parkview Baptist Church in Plainview assisted.

The early Crosby County settler succumbed at 11 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was 79.

The former Lillie Pearl Ausmus was born Sept. 27, 1897 in Speedwell, Tenn. She and Harrison Edwards were married in Tennessee, Mr. Edwards preceded his wife in death in 1952.

Mrs. Edwards is survived by three sons, Hoyt Edwards of Stephenville, Charles Edwards of Lubbock and Kenneth Edwards of Lockney; three daughters, Mrs. L.B. Marley of Crosbyton, Mrs. Harley Meek of Plainview and Mrs. Quida Walker of Lubbock; two brothers, Glen Ausmus of Maryville, Tenn., and Lawrence Ausmus of Speedwell, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Another daughter, Mrs. Hazel Griffin, preceded her mother in death.

Serving as pallbearers were: Bob Hardin, Alvin Swindall, Stanley Edwards, Loyd Martin, Billy Kirk, A.F. Ogle, Loyd Hall, and Johnnie Williams.
