A lengthy illness for Floyd Homer Edwards terminated in death about 10 p.m. Thursday in Methodist Hospital in Lubbock. He was 74.Mr. Edwards had been a well known Crosbyton resident since 1951, when he moved his family here from Crawford.
Memorial rites were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Stanley Nixon, a Baptist pastor from Plainview and former pastor of Pansy Baptist Church, officiated. Masonic graveside rites were conducted prior to burial in Crosbyton Cemetery.
King Funeral Home directed arrangements.
Floyd Edwards was employed in the electrical department of City of Crosbyton prior to his retirement in 1973. He formerly was a grocery clerk.
Born November 26, 1901, in Ireland, Tex., he and the former Rita Allene Rhea were married October 20, 1934 in Ennis.
Mr. Edwards was an active member of Masonic Lodge #1020, AF&AM. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge in Crawford before moving here.
Survivors include his wife, Allene, of the home; two sons, Allison Edwards of Lubbock and Floyd Edwards, Jr., of Plainview; four daughters,Mrs. Frances Nicks of Henrietta, Mrs. Virginia Moseley of Palmer, Mrs. Phyllis Clark and Mrs. Julia Edwards, both of Lubbock; four brothers, D.A. Edwards of Crosbyton; Carl Edwards of Gatesville, Wilbur Edwards of Lubbock, and Glenn Edwards of Post; five sisters, Mrs. Janet Wren of Fort Worth, Mrs. Eula Tillison of Garrett, Mrs. Elsie Thetford of Tacoma, Wash., Mrs. Buelah Smithee of Benbrook, and Mrs. Lydia McMicken of Pearl; 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were: Johnnie Wilson, Paul Ogle, Si Swindall, Gene Dewbre, J.D. Sheer, Kenneth Stegall, Charles Wallace and Bob Hardin.
