Memorial services for John Forrest Edler of Lubbock and a former longtime resident of the Crosbyton Community were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church in Crosbyton. Officiating were Rev. Johnnie Williams, retired Methodist minister from Lubbock, Rev. Al Jennings, local Methodist pastor, and Rev. Cliff Hargrove of Wildorado.

Interment was made in Crosbyton Cemetery. Adams Funeral Home directed arrangements.

Pallbearers were Leonard C. Parker, Hoyt Chappell, Cale Edler, Mike Carpenter, Kenneth Cawthron and Tevis Walker.

Mr. Edler, 93, was claimed by death at 6:30 a.m. Saturday in Community Hospital in Lubbock after a prolonged illness.

He farmed in the Big Four community many years prior to his retirement.

Born Jan. 28, 1890, in Hughesville, Pa., John Forrest Edler moved with his family to Crosbyton in 1913. The Edler family were early settlers in this area.

He and Hazel Maye Sprout were married Sept. 15, 1915 and resided in this community until moving about 10 years ago to Lubbock. Mrs. Edler preceded her husband in death on June 7, 1982.

Mr. Edler was a member of First United Methodist Church in Crosbyton, where he had served as a steward and as Sunday School superintendent. He also had served on the Big Four school board.

Survivors include two daughters, Madalene Graham and Genevieve Cawthron, both of Lubbock; three sisters, Lula Matthews of Crosbyton, Bertha Mullins of San Angelo and Kathryn Shipman of Lubbock; one grandson, Forrest Hargrove of Houston; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Another daughter, Miriam Hargrove, preceded her father in death in 1970.
