Charlie Marion Doss, a Crosbyton resident for 36 years, lost his courageous battle for survival at 1:45 a.m. Friday at Granville C. Martin Research Center in Dallas. He had been in failing health about four weeks.Mr. Doss was 84.
He had battled against both leukemia and pneumonia prior to his death.
Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Methodist Church. The Rev. Roy Eason, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, officiated and was assisted by the Rev. Al Jennings, pastor of First United Methodist Church.
Interment was made in Crosbyton Cemetery. Adams Funeral Home directed arrangements.
Pallbearers were Tillman Reeves,Don Handley, Gary Mitchell, Bob Hardin, Bobby Craze and Jacky Dewbre.
Mr. Doss, a heavy equipment operator in the construction business and a longtime employee of Tillman Reeves Phillips 66 prior to his retirement, was born in Cement, Okla., on Aug. 2, 1898. He and the former Jewel Roberts were married Dec. 24, 1924, in Ringland, Okla.
Mr. Doss was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
The family moved to Crosbyton in 1947. Mr. and Mrs. Doss resided at 331 South Crosby.
Survivors include his wife, Jewel; five sons, Dwain Doss and Jimmy Doss, both of Crosbyton, Robert Doss and Tommy Doss, both of Lbbock, and Charles Doss of Keller; one daughter, Mrs. M. A. (Kay) Smith of Spencer, Okla.; three brothers, Ray Doss of Maysville, Okla., Everett Doss and Bonnie Doss, both of Ringling, Okla.; one sister, Elizabeth Allen of Crosbyton; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
