Obituary
Death of a Pioneer Lady
It is with regret we chronicle the death of Mrs. J. F. Boyd at the home of her son T. D. Boyd on the East Plains Oct. 10th. She had been in failing health for about a year when she suffered a severe attack of influenza and her death was not unexpected. She was in the 64th year of her age and born in the first house that was built in Wise county, a daughter of T.D. Woody, one of the first settlers of that county. She became the mother of twelve children, nine of whom are living and all are grown, and all but two were with her at the last. Of the nine children, eight are sons and six of them reside in Crosby county, namely F. L., Joe W. and J. S., who live in Crosbyton and T.D., J.L. and E.L. on the East Plains. The daughter is Mrs. Ida Tippit of Gainesville, and two sons out of the county are W. W. Boyd residing near Gainesville and B. W. Boyd of San Francisco, Calif. Her husband also survives her. The remains were laid to rest in the Crosbyton cemetery after funeral services by Rev. J. H. Freeland. Her brothers, J. J. Woody of Clyde were present at the funeral and returned to their homes Tuesday morning. The bereaved relatives have our tenderest sympathy.
