Biography

James William Aynes was born April 21, 1860, in Jack Co., Tex. He married Katherine Wolfforth at Jacksboro on March 22, 1888.

J.W. and Katherine came to Crosbyton with their children from Jacksboro in 1915. He owned and operated a drygoods store in Crosbyton and his son, David, owned a furniture store.

Mr. Aynes died in 1945 and Mrs. Aynes in 1953. Their children were: Hattie Lou Beal, Annelle Grogan, Marie Dickey, Edna Smith, and David Aynes. David married Florence Shelton and they have three children. The Aynes family were members of the Presbyterian church.

Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Katy W. Aynes, 84, will be held this afternoon, Thursday, at 2:30 o'clock at the Crosbyton First Methodist church, with Rev. J. W. Watson, Methodist minister of Lubbock, officiating. Burial will be in the Crosbyton cemetery.

Mrs. Aynes, a resident of Crosbyton for 37 years, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital where she had been a patient since Monday.

Born at Jacksboro March 4, 1868, Mrs. Aynes moved with her family to Crosbyton in 1915. Her husband, the late J.W. Aynes, early day Crosbyton merchant preceeded sic) her in death seven years ago.

Survivors include one son, David Aynes, of Lubbock; four daughters, Mrs. Homer Beal of Gail, Mrs. Annelle Grogan of Crosbyton, Mrs. Joe Dickey of Fresno, Calif., and Mrs. Gip Smith of Waco; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
