Biography

When Alvin Milton Vernon was born on September 24, 1897, in Navarro, Texas, his father, Silas Mercer Vernon, was 39 and his mother, Rachel, was 20. He had two brothers and four sisters. He died on February 19, 1978, in Ralls, Texas, at the age of 80 and was buried in the Cone Cemetery, Crosby County, Texas.

When Iris Norville Kerlin was born on August 18, 1907, in Texas, her father, John Peter Kerlin , was 40 and her mother, Launa "Una" Lillian Thornton, was 29. She died on January 26, 1990, in Ralls, Texas, at the age of 82, and was buried in Cone Cemetery, Crosby County, Texas.

Alvin Milton Vernon at age 40 married Iris Norville Kerlin age 30 on January 16, 1938, in Texas. They had two children during their marriage.

RALLS (Special) — Services for Alvin M. Vernon, 80, of Ralls will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church here with the Rev. Floyd Haddock, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Cone Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home here.

The Navarro County native died about midnight Saturday in a Crosbyton hospital following a lengthy illness.

He had been a South Plains resident since 1929 and had lived in Ralls since 1934. He was retired from the oil business.

Survivors include his wife, Iris; a son, Forrest of Ralls; a brother, Edgar of Burkburnett; and three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle McDonald and Mrs. Chattie Mann, both of Burkburnett, and Mrs. Lucille Rainey of Redwood.

Services for Iris Vernon, 82, of Ralls were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 1990, in Ralls´s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Morrow, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in Cone Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

She died at 1:10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 1990, in Lubbock´s St. Mary of the Plains Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born Aug. 18, 1907, in the Farmer Community and was a longtime resident of the Ralls area. She married Alvin Milton Vernon on Jan. 16, 1938, in Farmer. He preceded her in death Feb. 19, 1978. She was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Crosbyton Chaper 891, First Baptist Church and the T.E.L. Sunday School class.

Three sisters, Laura Schnider, Mae Nance and Bernice Bartlet, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Forrest of Ralls; and a daughter, Martha of Ralls.
