DEATH TAKES AGED RANCHER
R. W. Morris, 76, of Paint Rock Dies in Angelo
Ballinger, March 13. Robert W. Morris, 76, of Paint Rock,
pioneer rancher, died in a San Angelo hospital late Saturday night. He was taken
to his Paint Rock home in a King-Holt funeral car and services were held there
Sunday at 3:30 p. m. from the Baptist church with his pastor, Rev. J. W.
Sailors, officiating, assisted by Rev. M. a. Quinlan, of Winters, and Rev. J. H.
McClain, Ballinger.
Several years ago Mr. Morris disposed of his ranch holdings
and devoted his time mostly to conducting a private loan and charitable affairs.
After his conversion in 1921, he became intensely interested in religious work,
and about two years ago he personally donated the funs that built the Baptist
church from which his funeral eventually was held.
Seated on the rostrum as honorary pallbearers were twelve or
fifteen of his old time ranching friends with whom he had been associated for
years.
Mr. Morris was never married. He is survived by a brother, C.
W. of Matador; two sisters, Mrs. J. L. Tom, San Antonio, and Mrs. W. C. Barber,
Paint Rock; and two nieces Mrs. Drury Hathaway, Ballinger, and Mrs. J. M.
Farnsworth, Millersview.
Active pallbearers were: J. C. Hollman, H. H. Ratchford, J.
M. Patton, W. H. Miller, J. B. Wade, and W. E. Warren.
Burial was at the Paint Rock cemetery.

Concho County Pioneer Citizen Is Buried
Sunday
Robert W. Morris, 76, resident of Concho
county for the past 55 years, died Saturday at 11:05 p. m. in Shannon Hospital,
San Angelo. Decedent had been in ill health for some time. he was taken to the
hospital for treatment several weeks ago but efforts to save his life were
unavailing.
The body was brought to Ballinger in a King-Holt hearse and
after being prepared for burial here was taken to Paint Rock Sunday morning. Mr.
Morris retired from active ranch life a few years ago and had made home in Paint
Rock ever since. He was converted and became a member of the Baptist church in
1921 and had been very active in religious affairs for a number of years. he and
a brother were principally responsible for the splendid Baptist church at paint
Rock, which was built and dedicated two years ago.
Funeral services were held at this church Sunday afternoon at
3:30. Rev. J. W. Sailors, pastor, officiated, and was assisted by Rev. M. A.
Quindlen and Rev. J. H. McClain. A large group of pioneer friends served as
honorary pallbearers and were given seats on the rostrum during the funeral
serve. Interment was made in the Paint Rock
cemetery.
Mr. Morris was never married and surviving relatives include
a brother, C. W. Morris, Matador; two sisters, Mrs. M. L. Tom, San Antonio, and
Mrs. W. C. Barber, Paint Rock; and two nieces, Mrs. Drury Hathaway, Ballinger;
and Mrs. J. M. Farnsworth, Millersview.
Active pallbearers were: I. C. Hallman, h. H. Ratchford, J.
M. Patton, W. H. Miller, J. B. Wade and W. E. Warren.
King-Holt Company undertakers were in charge of arrangements.

R. W. Morris, retired pioneer Concho County Ranchman, affectionately
known by all who knew him as "Mr. Bob" died in a San Angelo sanitarium
Saturday at 11;05 p m. His body was brought to Paint Rock Sunday and interred in
the local cemetery. Funeral rites were conducted from the First Baptist church
of Paint Rock with the pastor, Rev. J. W. Sailors in charge assisted by Rev. J.
H. McClain, of Ballinger; Rev. Quinlan, of Winters; and Rev. L. D. Hardt, pastor
of the local Methodist church. King-Holt Funeral Service was in charge.
Mr. Morris was born October 12, 1857, in Guadalupe county,
Texas. He came to Concho county about the time the county was organized 55 years
ago and spent the rest of his life in and near Paint Rock. He was a successful
cattleman and became the owner of one of the best ranches in this section.
Several years ago he retired from the active ranch business and sold his
holdings to the Sansom Cattle Co., who are still the owners at the present time.
While in the cattle business he made many friends among the best ranchmen of the
county as was attested by the large number of pioneer ranchers at the funeral
services.
About 13 years ago Mr. Morris was converted and united with
the First Baptist church of Paint Rock and after that he became a very liberal
supporter with his means and an enthusiastic attendant of all the services fo
the church. Two years ago he gave to the church an entire building as a memorial
to his mother. he also gave much of his mean to those in need and to charitable
institutions.
Mr. Morris was one of the ten children. All but one
attained maturity. Only three of these are now living; one brother, C. W.
Morris, of Matador, Texas; and two sisters, Mrs. L. M. Tom, of San Antonio, and
Mrs. C. W. Barber of Paint Rock. Also there are 12 nephews and 14 nieces
surviving.

Sims, V. D. Fuller, H. A. Stephens, J. F. Dodson, Fogg Coffey, Gerard Huston, J.

M. Davis, Ben Polk, Tom Crunk, J. C. Jones, Bob Pierce, and A. S. Bishop.
