Mt. Hope Cemetery is located at US 69 at Old Homer-Alto Road (CR 2626) and at the site 2.9 miles northwest of Wells on CR 2626.

Mt. Hope Cemetery - At first home to a Methodist church and cemetery, the church moved to nearby Wells in 1886, leaving only the Mt. Hope Cemetery. However, this active cemetery contains over 1,800 graves, more than 200 of the military veterans, including eight Confederate soldiers. Texas Historical Commission Marker

James H. and John J. Bowman Graves- were brothers who served in the Texas Revolution in 1836. James H. Bowman was born in 1820 in Mississippi and died in Texas Feb 1886. He was in Capt. Bailey Hardiman's company from Matagorda. John J. Bowman was born on 25 Jul 1807 and died 30 Mar 1890. He was with Maj. George Collingsworth at Goliad in Capt. Phillips Dimmitt's company. He was appointed 1dt Lt. of artillery in Col. James W. Fannin's command. Texas Historical Commission Marker
