TEXAS SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIPS

Contact Scholarships Chairman
Nell Findley for more information

The Harding-Massengill Scholarship was the first Texas Society Scholarship established in 1984 with a $1000 gift from Cornelia Ann Holmes Massengill of Longview. This scholarship was designated for a student enrolled in Stephen F Austin State University in Nacogdoches. At the 1994 State Conference, the membership voted to change the name of the scholarship to “Harding-Massengill Scholarship” honoring Mrs. Jane Harding of the Austin Embassy Chapter for her generous contributions to the scholarship fund.  The Bylaws Standing Rules call for an award of $1000 to be distributed from interest earned on the fund principle balance. This scholarship is awarded at the end of the year, only once a year. Our Texas Society manages the funds in this scholarship.

The Texas Society Scholarship was the project of Mrs. Billie Rogge Bilhartz, State President 1997-1999. The Texas society maintains these funds with interest earned on the principle balance funding the award. A recipient must be a Texas resident enrolled in an accredited Texas college or university. The applicant should be concentrating on a career that advances the objects of the Society with majors preferred in history, library science, historical research or preservation. Chapters are encouraged to endorse an applicant for the Texas Society Scholarship. Deadline for submitting an application for the spring semester 2011 is November 15th. The sale of Tote Bags also funds this scholarship.
