O.B. “Dutch” Cassel

O. B. Dutch Cassel, 90, passed away at home Jan. 21, 2003.

He was born July 8, 1912 in Wood County, the son of Virgil and Vanner Fowler Cassel.

Cassel was on the board of directors for Moremon Community Gin. He was also a deacon at the Church of Christ and a past Calhoun County Farmer of the Year.

Survivors include daughters Mary Elizabeth Guffey of Dallas and Mae Belle Cassel of Port Lavaca; son, Charles Crober of Port Lavaca; sisters, Irene Wilds of Corpus Christi and Phama Sneed of Victoria; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is survived by nieces and nephews

O.B. was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Faye Crober Cassel, second wife Cora Belle Wilson Cassel, daughter Patty Sue Garner, sisters Mabel Nunley, Charlene Buckley, Opal Dickey, Alice Johnson; and brothers Verbal Cassel, Bryce Cassel and V. C. Cassel.

Services for “Dutch” were 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at the Church of Christ in Port Lavaca with Shan Jackson and O’Quinn Kelly officiating. Burial followed at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Sami Custorani, Bill Crober, Charles Crober, Dutch Crober, James Crober, Dale Garner, Freeman Guffey II, Mike Hahn, Paul Purswell and Tony Tidrick. Honorary pallbearers were Don Lester, Frank Scott, Tillman Shafer, Leon Hunnicutt, Clyde Douglas, Dallis Douglas and Lester Spiller.

Memorials may be made to the Church of Christ in Port Lavaca.
