Clark's Chapel ~ ca 1879

Clark's Chapel is located on FM 713 about six miles southeast of Lockhart. The community was founded on land owned by Wm. Alexander Clark in 1879 following a camp meeting and the organization of a Methodist Church that was first known as the Clarks Chapel Society. Dr. Ledford established a post office and store that served the community until it closed in 1903. In 1886, a school was organized and continued until 1912 when it was consolidated with Harmony Grove School.
