From: "Leon & Sue Oehlers" Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2001 09:48:52 -0500 I am the third grandchild of Abner and Ruth Moore. I am known as Pete to all the family and kin. I raised my three children there on the farm during the 1980's. My aunts are Mary F. MOORE-Birt and Margaret MOORE-Hoag. I knew Chuckle Huff all my life as a friend/fellow farmer with my grandpa. We saw Chuckle a few times when we were living at the farm and also Robert Huff at some of the volunteer fire department functions. Chuckle's land borders our farm. From your email reply, I assume that you may have gone to school with Abner Moore's only son Abner "Sonny" Moore, Jr. (my uncle). I would be interested in any information you may have as to the "cousin" kinship of Jack and/or John Moore. I plan on sending all the Fulton and Abner Moore family information to them for future inclusion in the book. I also plan on contacting the Plum Creek Almanac for correction of some of the family names on our Moore side. I am very curious of the "relationship". I talked with Mary Moore-Birt a while back and she stated that she is has been attending the Harwood Baptist Church and I plan on talking with her some more on this "connection". I have been compiling the family genealogy on both sides of our family MOORE's of Harwood/McNeil and the BELL's of Luling. I just recently un-locked the puzzle to the BELL's and now have a comprehensive tree of my grandmothers side of the BELL family back to the 1740's. However, we are now attempting to locate and un-lock the puzzle of names, births, deaths, and location of Abner (senior) MOORE's grandparents. Abner was raised outside of Harwood and his parents were Columbus Fulton Moore and Maggie Rampy-Moore who are buried with the family at the McNeil Cemetery, however they were omitted from the on-line inventory of 1997 at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txcaldwe/mcneil.txt (I plan on contacting the Luling Historical and Genealogy Association to correct this error.) We grew up knowing and loving Rufus, Ada and Bernice Moore Oliver of Harwood and all their children. Although, we were always told that he Moore's on the Ada and Rufus' side were not blood related. There are three (of us) cousins working on this puzzle. The family stories state that C. Fulton was born in Alabama and the family originates from Georgia and came to Texas via the Tyler area. Many other families in the Harwood/Gonzales/Luling areas also came from Georgia and the Carolina's. The W.J. and Isabella MOORE date of death inquiry I sent to you for the Leesville Cemetery was as close as we have ever come to locating any record, i.e. there is a listing of a Fulton (10 years old) in the 1860 census of Starville/Smith County (near Tyler, Texas) that lists a Fulton (and sister Ella 7 years) as son of a W.J. and Isabella MOORE and shows his birth place as Alabama. The genealogy has hit a dead end with this generation and I am intensifying efforts to gather any other related information from the Harwood area of any Moore surnames. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have combed the Gonzales and Caldwell cemetery and census records for any information on the parents of Columbus Fulton MOORE and his family but the Leesville listing is as close as we have come, however this appears that it is not the persons we are looking for. For your records, the following is some information on our MOORE's and all buried at McNeil Cemetery: * Columbus Fulton Moore and Maggie Rampy-Moore (parents of Abner Moore senior and are buried at McNeil cemetery) Married 7-15-1879 Columbus Fulton Moore b. 7-18-1851, d. 3-14-1924 Maggie Moore b. 5-13-1853, d. 5-23-1930 * Abner Moore (senior) b.10-30-1888, d. 10-15-1979 and wife Ruth Augusta Bell-Moore b. 7-5-1899, d. 12-31-1982 Children Anna Ruth Moore-Hummel b. 1922 (living in Gonzales) (went to Harwood school) Avis Earle Moore-Oehlers b. 2-8-1923, d. 5-1-88 (went to Harwood school) Margaret Moore b.12-8-1924 (went to Harwood school) Abner Moore, JR. b. 5-1-27, d. 7-22-98 (went to Harwood school) Mary Frances Moore-Birt b. 11-10-1930 (went to Luling High) Martha Moore (infant) b. 11-10-1930 d. 11-11-1930
