DANFORTH, Susie-- "Miss Susie to Celebrate 100th Birthday with America's Bicentennial".

Summary of the article: She was born 9 May 1876 on a large ranch near Wimberly. She rode horseback to San Marcos for her education, returning home on weekends. It took about three hours to ride the 15 miles. Miss Susie's father was Allen Turner Brook, and her mother was Helena Luco, a great grand-daughter of the Emperor of Prussia. She was a schoolteacher, teaching at Wimberly, Dripping Springs and other counties. One of her teaching jobs paid $29 per month. She married William Caleb Danforth, raised three daughters, Bess Halm; Vivian Newcombe, and Lillian. Her husband died in 1938. Many more paragraphs recounting her spirit, energy, and many accomplishments.

WILBARGER, Josiah - "Early Texas Pioneer Survived Scalping at Hands of Indians". Story about Mr. Wilbarger, who was scalped in 1833 and lived for 11 years afterward. The incident occurred near Pecan Springs, an early settlement between Austin and Manor. A neighbor, Mrs. Hornsby, reportedly had a dream of the scalping and urged her husband to search for the man, which undoubtedly saved his life.
