Thelma Weber (daughter of Martha Jane Snow), in correspondence with Elaine Watson, wrote,"

"John and Josephine Snow had three children. The two youngest died of typhoid, 10 or 12 years of age. Josephine committed suicide by cutting her throat with a razor. Two or three years later the oldest died of a fever and John never remarried."

In a letter dated April 18, 1892 to Miss Fronie Snow from W.T. Snow, her cousin, he writes, "Aunt Josephine cut her throat with a razor. She went out about 3 hundred yards from the house in the pasture. while Uncle John was out in the field at Work. Nobody don't know what she killed herself for she seemed all right before dinner. It was a surprise to me. I thought they got along all right together but I think the boys didn't treat her right. They all lived together in one house and she had a right smart of trouble."
