Newspapers Municipal newpapers are a great resource for Birth, Death, and Marriage information. They can also provide listings of ship arrivals, legal notices, and even an advertisement for your ancestor's business. Official newspapers were produced by most Colonies, and were called the Government Gazettes. The Trinidad Royal Gazette was the name of the Trinidad publication, and it contains much information valuable to genealogists. For more on the contents of the Gazette, click here. The Trinidad Gazette is held at the PRO under reference CO 299, and spans the years 1833 to 1975 (193 volumes). There is a complete run with the exception of 1918. (TIP: You will save time at the PRO if you know the proper catalogue number for the year you are requesting.) The PRO also has a limited number of other newspapers.
