These are queries which have been published in the Association newsletter recently. You can also read about some of the larger 'Broken Branches' of our family tree here - any information concerning these groups would be appreciated.

We welcome all queries concerning Truax, Trueax, Truex, and related lines. There is no charge for printing members' queries in the newsletter. They will be printed as space permits. In addition to Name, Date, and Location, please include what information you are seeking (ancestry, life/history information, etc.). ~ ELIAS TRUAX was born 1835 in New York. He married MARY K. MCDERMOTT 1856 in Franklin Co., NY, daughter of FRANCIS and NANCY MCDERMOTT. (Found! Son of Peter Truax and Rachel Bakeman)


~ Looking for information on WILLIAM HENRY TRUAX, b. Kalamazoo, MI, son of ELMER JOSIAH TRUAX. William married BERTHA LOUISE MARSH of Birmingham, England. Daughter, MINNIE GRACE TRUAX, b. Sennett, NY, married JOHN E. SHANGRAW, b. 15 Jun 1902. Probably buried at Skaneateles Cemetery in Sennett, NY.

~ JAMES CHURCHILL TRUAX was born in the early to mid 1920s. He married MARGARET YUKER STANLEY possibly in Jamestown. He died ca. 1965 and is buried in Sweeden Valley, PA. Margaret was born in 1910 in Bridgeton, NJ, d: 1992 in Wellsville, NY and is buried with her husband in PA. James is the son of EDWARD TRUAX, born abt. 1882, d. after 1985. Edward's wife is LUCY MALLORY, b. ca. 1907.

~ Joseph TRUAX born bef. 1803 in New York. Married a German woman. A son Cornelius TRUAX born 1819 in New York. Married --- STARK. Moved to Michigan. Their children: Aaron b.1853 in New York; Arthur b.1855 in NY; Emma b.1859, d.1880 in Michigan. Cornelius later married Harriet Ann MUDGE b.1830, d.1914 in Tekonsha MI. Their children: 1.Welcome Daniel TRUAX b.1865, d.1952, m. Nettie M. HAKES (b.1866, d.1926). 2.John Cornelius or Cornelius John TRUAX. 3.Jay TRUAX m. Romana. 5.Emmanuel Sylvester TRUAX b.1877, d.1953, m. Susie Ellen PETERS (b.1883, d.1969).

~ Looking for information on a Sarah TRUAX, who married Peter BOVEE. She was born abt. 1788, and died after 1850, New York. She married Peter about 1833. I have no idea who her parents were, but I believe Sarah was from New York. In 1850 she resided with Peter's son Jacob in Saugerties, Ulster Co. New York.

~ Pomeroy M. TRUAX was born 1869 in Schenevus, Otsego Co., NY, and died 1946. He married Edith A. ? Bef. 1899. She was born 1872, and died 1947. (Found! Probably Mark P. Truax, son of Charles W. Truax and Martha Shaver, but need more documentation)


~ Currently working on the ancestry of one Reuben DUTRO, born about 1806, possibly Washington Co. MD, married 5 Jan. 1832, Frederick Co. MD to Maria NEFF. They had a son, Joel Neff DUTRO, born 1832 in MD, and another, George Washington DUTRO, born 24 Apr. 1836 in Ohio. Joel DUTRO was here, Bartholomew Co. IN, by 1860; the brother married in Coles Co. IL in 1858, and died there in 1884. Don't know what happened to the parents; did not find Reuben DUTRO on 1840 or 1850 census indexes. Surely DUTRO and DU TRIEUX are the same family - if anyone can confirm this or provide further information, please contact Donna Kuhlman at 805 Sycamore St., Columbus, IN 47201.


~ Several people are looking for information about the following family:
James TRUAX; born before 1790; married Sarah FLOYD 3 Aug 1808 at Adams Co., MS. Known children of James Truax and Sarah Floyd were:

1. William James TRUAX; born circa 1811; married Elizabeth PERRY 24 Oct 1839 at Wilkinson Co., MS; married Mary Frances DAVIS 22 Apr 1854 at Wilkinson, MS; died between 1862 and 1866 in the Civil War.
2. Matilda TRUAX; born circa 1813 at Mississippi; married George PERRY 24 Oct 1839 at Wilkinson, MS.
3. Sarah TRUAX; born circa 1819 at Mississippi; married Henry PERRY 3 Aug 1843 at Wilkinson, MS.

~ Looking for the parents of Gilbert TRUAX, b. before 1913 in Logansport, IN; married Essie (maiden name unknown), and had at least one son, Paul C. TRUAX, b. 10/24/1930 in Logansport. Anyone with information, please contact Paul Truax at [email protected].


~ Seeking the parents of Amos TRUEX, b. in Arkansas around the turn of the century; married Dora LA CRONE of Indiana. (Found! Son of John M. Truex & Abigail Wilson)


~ Looking for information on the ancestry of Maud Mae TRUEX, b. 21 Aug. 1880 in Webb City, MO, d. Feb. 1976 in St. Louis, MO; married Charles HAGGIN; lived in NY/NJ, later in Indiana and Macoupin Co. IL. Possibly the daughter of Robert or William TRUEX of Indiana or New Jersey, and Sarah E. KELTNER of Illinois. Had siblings Blanche and Edwin, also possible siblings Ella and William. ~ Seeking information on the parents of Emma (Emeline?) TRUEX, b.June 4, 1882 in New York, died January 31, 1944 at Goldwater Hospital in New York. Married James A. MILLER. ~ Trying to identify the parents of Wilbur TRUAX, b. in Massachusetts. He married Florence PREVERE, b. 7 Jul 1885 in Massachusetts; d. Jun 1977 at Weymouth, Norfolk Co., MA. Known children of Wilbur Truax and Florence Prevere were 1) Delbert W. TRUAX, born 25 Dec 1910 at Waltham, MA; married Signe W. ~ GEORGE TRUAX was born 14 February 1857 in Rome, NY, and died 29 February 1936 in Knowlton, Marathon Co., WI. He married ADDIE BELL 2 April 1881 in Knowlton, Marathon Co., WI. (Son of Isaac and Sarah A. Truax - still unplaced)

~ GEORGE A. TRUAX was born 21 March 1828 in St. Lawrence Co., NY, and died in Seattle, WA. Lived in Wisconsin to 1865; Iowa, 1873-79; Colorado, 1879-89. Corp. Co. D., Ind. Wis. Cav. in the Civil War. He married (1) BETSY WALKUP. She was born in Mass.. He married (2) LAURA M. (GREEN?) BRIMMER. Child of GEORGE TRUAX and BETSY WALKUP is HELEN CLARICE TRUAX, b. 26 September 1855, Racine Co., WI. George had a brother named Daniel R. Truax, b. abt. 1834.

~ GEORGE TRUAX was born Abt. 1778 in Albany, NY. He married (1) ANNE MAGEE Bef. 1801. He married (2) MARY MINORGAN Bet. 1821 - 1828. Settled near Cornwall, Ontario as early as 1801. Children were detailed in last issue - still looking for help in placing this family.
