LONG CAREER OF CORYELL MAN ENDS

GATESVILLE, Jan. 15 ---- Services were held last week for S. P. Warren
who died at the family home here Jan. 8 after a lingering illness. His
health had been failing since the death of his wife in August of 1937
and he was confined to his bed the last few months.
Samuel Pinkney Warren, son of Zachriah and Marian Warren, was born at
Henderson Cross Roads, Tenn. May 25, 1857. He spent his boyhood there
and in and around Lebanon, came to Texas in the fall of 1877.
In 1879 he returned to Tennessee on horseback, making the trip in four
weeks and stayed a year, returning to Texas, he settled at Osage in
Coryell county.
He was a deacon in the Bluff Creek Baptist church and was a clerk of
the Leon River Baptist association for 13 years.
He married Miss Sallie Ann Edwards of Osage May 11, 1884. They were
the parents of 10 children. They lived on a farm near Osage for a
number of years, moving to Gatesville in the fall of 1904 after he was
elected to the office of county treasurer. He served as county
treasurer two terms. Later he was elected public weigher and served two
terms, one term as tax assessor.
Surviving are: four sons, J. T. and Lawrence of Dallas, Sumner of
Gatesville and Ed. of Port Arthur; three daughters, Mrs. E. L. Adkins
and Mrs. Vesta Shirley of Gatesville and Mrs. Ben Adams of Rogers; nine
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: one sister living in
Kentucky, one half brother of Gatesville and one half sister and three
half brothers of Tennessee.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church with Rev. C. M.
Spalding officiating.
