A brick kiln west of Statesville on Knight Creek was owned and operated by Jim ARMSTRONG. Its origin dates back to 1840. Statesville has a war record extending back to the Continental War of 1776 for William BUMPASS and Abner ALEXANDER were patriots of that war and as early as 1807 had organized two companies of militia, each being a captain. In 1812 John HAYS and a Mr. WILLIAMS fought with COFFEE and JACKSON in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. Statesville was represented by W.W. TALLEY, Nathan OAKLEY and Kennedy? ALEXANDER. In 1864 with SCOTT and HOUSTON in Mexico were Nathan OAKLEY, William and Tom REEVES, W.W. TALLEY, James BRYANT, Lindsey CHAPMAN, Auzy BEADLE and others. When the crisis came at the breaking out of the Civil War in 1861 the 3rd Co. organized in Wilson County was from Statesville and known as the "Statesville Tigers". The people of Wilson County honor the memory of Col. Robert HATTON who was killed in the battle of Seven Pines on May 31, 1862 and died in the arms of another soldier from Statesville-a Mr. DAVIS. In the fall of 1861 Statesville men were placed in the 45th Reg. of Tennessee Infantry, the companies being B,F,G, & H. During the same fall three companies of cavalry were raised in Wilson County and were placed in the 4th Reg. of Tennessee Cavalry. The Statesville men were placed in Co. "C".
