JONATHAN TIPTON was born the 15th of April 1753 in Baltimore County, MD to Jonathan TIPTON and Eleanor BRYANT. He married to Elizabeth FORD the 19th of May 1772 at Baltimore. He enlisted in the Revolution in 1775 and served 27 months. He left Maryland ca 1795 and moved to East Tennessee where he resided only a short time. He was granted 1,000 acres of land on the Cumberland River - he built a double log cabin. Elizabeth probably died before 1820 and it is believed Jonathan's son James TIPTON resided at the homestead and cared for him. Jonathan applied for a pension the 25th of Sept 1832 in Wilson Co., TN - he was 79 years old. There is a tradition that when Jonathan was 90 years old he walked the 17 miles to Lebanon to pick up his pension - he died in 1848.
