This indenture made and intend the 5th day of October in the year 1847 between CHARLES H. SPEARS of the State of Tennessee, Smith County, of the one part and L. D. DOUGHTY of the County of Wilson and State aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth that the said C. W. SPEARS for and in consideration of the sum of Six Hundred Hundred Dollars to him paid the receipt whereof is acknowledged, hath bargained or sold and conveyed unto the said L. D. DOUGHTY his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land originally granted to JAMES DAVIDSON of 450 acres beginning at a white walnut and ironwood, thence south eighty eight poles and a half to a white walnut thence east 227 poles to two birches, thence north fifty one and a half poles to an elm thence west fifty two poles to a stake and elm and chinquepin oak, thence north thirty six and a half poles to a white ash and Chinquepin oak, thence west 175 poles to the beginning, containing by estimation 116 acres to have and to hold the aforesaid land with all the rights, profits, hereditaments and appurtainances of the same belonging to the said L. D. DOUGHTY, his heirs and assigns forever and the said C. H. SPEARS for himself, his heirs and assigns the above [recited?] land, I will warrant and defend against the right title interest or claim of all and every person or persons in witness whereof the said CHARLES H. SPEARS hath this day set his hand and seal the day and year above written signed, sealed and delivered in the presence of us.

County on 3 August, 1831. We have not determined the relationship with
the JAMES B. COOKSEY, witness to this deed.]
