John A. Baskerville - Capt. Discharged on disability on April 27, 1863. Was to recruit a company of partisan rangers to operate behind the Union lines. No such command materialized. By occupation a blacksmith. Prior service in Col. E. S. Smith's 2nd Tennessee Cavalry which was disbanded because of not being furnished arms.

J. L. Hibbett - 1st Lt. Detailed as Assistant Surgeon Jan. 1, 1862. Resigned June 1, 1862. Enlisted in Co. E, Allison's Cavalry Squadron.

James Campbell - 2nd Lt. Resigned June 15, 1862. Enlisted in the 1st Tennessee Infantry.

Jesse E. Gwinn - 3rd Lt. 2nd Lt. March 8, 1862. Made Captain, May 2, 1862, at re-organization. Killed at Murfreesboro Dec. 31, 1862.

Henry Cox - 1st Sgt. Discharged as a non-conscript July 20, 1862.

B. H. Graves - 3rd Sgt. Bandmaster in Regimental Band. Strain at battle of Farmington, Miss. Hernia and Hydrocele, followed by Pneumonia. Discharged on disability from Gallatin. Was a butcher after war.

William H. Dobbins - 4th Sgt. Wounded at Shiloh April 6, 1862. Wounded severely at Murfreesboro Dec. 31, 1862. Died of wound April 30, 1862.

Austin, Henry M. - 3rd Lt. March 3, 1862. 1st Lt. May 2, 1862. Capt. March 11, 1865, replacing Capt. Gwinn. Wounded at Atlanta, Ga., July 22, 1864. Minie ball through elbow. Arm amputated on the battlefield.

Baskerville, R. K. - Shown present through June 3, 1864. Deserted. Captured as a deserter by Union forces. Agreed to take oath if released north of the Ohio River. Prior service in Co. E, 30th Tennessee Infantry, which see.

Bertrand, Robert B. - In bad health. In hospital a lot. Captured at Corinth, Miss., June 1, 1862. Sent to Alton, IL. Exchanged. Paroled at Greensboro, N. C., May 1, 1863.

Branham, J. R. - Died Dec. 17, 1861, in Sumner County.

Brumley, James P. - Detailed as hospital cook. Pay stoppage for $15.50 for one cartridge box and 40 cartridges lost. Deserted Oct. 10, 1863. Captured as a deserter at Chattanooga by Union forces. Carried to Nashville where he took the oath Oct. 31, 1863.

Brumley, W. J. - Discharged on disability July 22, 1862. A disability in early years of the war could be physical or under or over age.

Byrns, C. B. - Left sick in Kentucky on Bragg's retreat after the battle of Perryville. No further record.

Carter, J. W. - Sgt. Shown on roll through Oct. 1863.

Cissom, J. M. - Deserted Jan. 4, 1863. Prior service in Co. D, 7th Cavalry Battalion and in Co. I, 2nd Tennessee Infantry, which records see.

Cole, J. M. - Deserted June 3, 1862. Arrested by Confederate forces. Given extra duty as Teamster at Huntsville, Ala., in Feb. and March 1863.

Dobbs, H. S. - Discharged on disability, sick, May 19, 1862. Dutton, Wylie -Wounded in top of head by shell fragment at Shiloh, April 6, 1862. All left side paralyzed. Discharged on disability. Part of skull being gone, each heart beat could be seen pulsating in top of head.

Etheridge, Geo. W. - Detailed to Regimental Band. Discharged as a non-conscript July 22, 1862.

Gregory, William A. - Wounded at Perryville, Ky., Oct. 8, 1862, by minie ball in left foot. Carried off battlefield by T. J. Moncrief. Left leg and hip perished. Left at Perryville when Bragg retreated. Captured in Mercer County, Ky., July 23, 1863, trying to get back south. Sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. Exchanged. Detailed to hospital duty at Atlanta, Ga., to meet all trains carrying sick and wounded that passed through Atlanta on way to hospitals. Paroled May 7, 1865. From ABC, Tenn.

Shannon, who had been commanding the company.

Wix, Robert - Trans. from Co. K, 2nd Tennessee Infantry, April 1, 1862. Wounded at Shiloh, Apri16, 1862. Sent to hospital at Columbus, Miss., where he died of wound, April 9, 1862. Having been trans. just in time to be killed.

Here in these individual records you see again the evils of The Non-conscript Act passed by the Confederate Congress. It deprived the army of men already trained and battle tried. These men had volunteered of their own volition and numbers of them had already re-enlisted for the duration of the war. A number of them volunteered in other regiments later, they being then older and the conscript age had been lowered.

The Non-conscript act in conjunction of another law passed by The Confederate Congress releasing from military service all owners of twenty or more slaves greatly weakened the morale of the Confederate soldier. They now considered it "The Rich Man's War and the Poor Man's Fight."
