Obituary of Joseph Addison Jones from Hartsville Vidette (Aug. 1898) is included in the bible:
Death of an Old Citizen.
J. A. Jones, one of our oldest and most prominent citizens died at his home in North Hartsville last Saturday night. Mr. Jones had been in feeble health for quite a while and although his death was not unexpected it was a great shock to his family and to the whole community in which he lived. He had reached the advanced age of 77 years and had been among Hartsville's most prominent citizens for over a quarter of a century.

Mr. Jones was one of the most prominent figures in the early history of the county. He assisted in laying off and organizing Trousdale county and superintended the building of the Court House and jail. He acted in the capacity of County Judge for a number of years and was always found honest and upright in all the transactions of life. He was married in 1855 to Ann E. Allan, who still survives him. He also leaves nine children to morn the loss of a kind and indulgent father. He professed religion when quite a young man and joined the Baptist Church and was ever faithful in discharging his christian duty. His remains were intered in the Hartsville cemetery Sunday afternoon with appropriate funeral services conducted by Rev. Wm. Wilkes...
