The 7th Tennessee Cavalry Battalion

Muster Roll for Company F, 7th Cavalry Battalion

Later known officially as Company G, 22nd Tennessee Cavalry

An * after the name denotes continued service after becoming Company G in the 2nd or 22nd Cavalry Regiment.

This company was organized at Gallatin. There not being enough men for a full company and companies A and B having more than the required number (100), enough were detached and added to Company F to complete the company.

Notice some men listed as serving in more than one company.

Joseph T. E. Odom* - Captain. Resigned at the reorganization of the regiment. Reconsidered. Elected Major. In battles of Shiloh, Tishimongo Creek, Iuka, Bryce's Crossroads, Harrisburg, Fort Pillow and Paducah. Paroled at Gainesville, Alabama, May 13, 1865.

Thomas Puryear* - 1st Lieutenant. Made Captain June 18, 1862, succeeding Captain Odom. Carried 45 of his neighbors with him to Gallatin to enlist in November 1861. Received his death wound came at Cherokee, Alabama, October 21, 1863, and died October 29, from the wound. Was leading his company with drawn sword when wounded. Died at Fulton, Mississippi.

Robert F. Andrews* - 2nd Lieutenant. Discharged on disability May 20, 1862. Enlisted in Company H, 9th Tennessee Cavalry, also see.

James Eli Dobbins - Bvt. 2nd Lieutenant. Resigned at reorganization.

James Kib Terry - 3rd Lieutenant. Bvt. 2nd Lieutenant, December 31, 1861, and made acting Sergeant-Major in place of Eli 0. Elliott who became regimentaI Quartermaster. Elliott was in Company A.

William C. Vance* - 1st Sergeant. Discharged on disability April 18, 1863.

Samuel C. Stafford - 2nd Sergeant. Enlistment expired October 19, 1862. Enlisted in Company F, 9th Tennessee Cavalry, also see.

James B. Vance Jr.* - 3rd Sergeant. Discharged on disability April 18, 1863.

Elijah Puryear - 4th Sergeant. Enlistment expired October 19, 1862. Enlisted in Company G, 9th Tennessee Cavalry, also see.

James Anthony* - 1st Corporal. Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Vitromer Omar Hogg - 2nd Corporal, then Sergeant. Shown present through June 1862. Deserted. Enlisted in Company F, 9th Tennessee Cavalry, also see.

James A. Siddons* - Captured September 7, 1863, in Allen County, Kentucky. Charged with being a Guerilla. Not proven. Sent to Camp Douglas, Illinois. Paroled May 17, 1865. 3rd Corporal.

William J. Armstrong* - 4th Corporal at reorganization. Captured at Reinzi, Mississippi (luka), August 26, 1862. Exchanged. Under military arrest August 10, 1863. Double barreled shotgun valued at $15 furnished by self.

Henry Rose* - Bugler. Shown on roll through June 1862.

Peter R. Mahan - Bugler. Enlistment expired October 19, 1862. Furnished horse valued at $1,250.

Elijah W. P. Rutledge* - Blacksmith, Deserted August 1, 1863.

Jonathan W. White* - Farrier. Served in companies E and F. Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Anderson, James E. - Enlisted October 19, 1861. Wounded at Shiloh, April 6, 1862. Exposure to rain at Courtland, Alabama, while sick with measles caused discharge on disability. Went home to Sumner County. Forced to take oath or go to prison. Enlisted in Company K, 8th Tennessee Cavalry. Wounded at Waynesboro, Georgia, by shell explosion causing loss of hearing in right ear. Offered discharge. Refused it and fought to end of war. Paroled at Washington, Georgia, May 3, 1865.

Avaritt, Jarrett* - Killed at Florence, Alabama, October 7, 1864, just before Hood's Invasion of Tennessee.

Barber, Caleb A.* - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Barbour, Henry* - Captured at Columbia, Tennessee. Died in prison October 2, 1864.

Barteau, Clark R. - Enlisted in 1861. Became Lieutenant Colonel, then Colonel in June 1863. Wounded, leg broken, at Harrisburg, Mississippi, July 13, 1864. Furloughed. Asked leave to recruit an Artillery company. The war ended before he recovered enough to do this and the company never materialized.

Birdon, Eugene* - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Bledsoe, Joseph C.* - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862. Colts rifle valued at $65 furnished by self.

Boyd, William S. - Enlisted at the reorganization June 15, 1862. Transfered to Company F, 2nd Tennessee Infantry and was wounded May 14, 1864, in the Atlanta Campaign.

Buck, Elias Jeff Jr.* - Enlisted October 19, 1861. In battle of Shiloh, April 7, 1862, and in several skirmishes. Surgeons Certificate of Disability from epilepsy. Stayed with company and was attended by Dr. J. W. Harrison. In hospital at Okolona, Mississippi, April 1, 1865.

Bundy, William* - Enlisted October 19, 1861, for one year. Absent on sick leave, December 31, 1862, which shows reenlistment. Discharged is charged on disability from eye infection at Corinth, Mississippi. Double barreled shotgun valued at $15 furnished by self.

Caruth, Isaac A. - Enlisted October 19, 1861. Discharged on disability from measles at Corinth, Mississippi, in May 1862. Enlisted in Company H , 9th Tennessee Cavalry, also see.

Caruthers, Marion* - Deserted February 25, 1864.

Cole, Jesse* - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Cochran, Perry H. - Prior enlistment in Company I, 2nd Tennessee Infantry, also see. Made Corporal.

Daniel, Christopher C. - Captured at Corinth, Mississippi in May 1862. Exchanged. Wounded in left arm at Farmington, Tennessee, October 7, 1863. Wounded in right arm at 2nd Murfreesboro in 1864. Paroled at Gainesville, Alabama, May 10, 1865.

Duty, James F.* - Captured at Scottsville, Kentucky, December 10, 1863. Exchanged at Vicksburg, Mississippi, December 29, 1863.

Dias, Wilson W.* - Under military arrest August 10, 1863. Detailed as a Teamster March 16, 1864.

Dyer, Z. Gibbs - Captured November 7, 1863. Paroled on oath.

Dickens, Jesse* - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Dotson, John P. - Prior service in Company K, 32nd Tennessee Infantry in which he was captured at Fort Donelson, February 16, 1862, and exchanged at Vicksburg, Mississippi, September 12, 1864. Enlisted in this company and was captured at Chickamauga, Georgia, September 19, 1863. Took the oath.

Driver, Daniel S. - Missing at Shiloh. Supposed deserted. Enlisted in Company A, Allison's Cavalry Squadron.

Drury, James A.* - Killed at Harrisburg, Mississippi, July 13, 1864. Was mounted on a mule.

Fowler, Henry Thomas* - Enlisted October 8, 1861. Captured at Bolivar, Tennessee, February 5, 1864. Sent to Camp Douglas, Illinois. Had chronic diarrhea in prison. Paroled May 12, 1865, for whom Fowler Ford on Drakes Creek was named.

Gardner, John A. - Enlisted in October 1861, in the 10th Tennessee Infantry. Captured at Fort Donelson, February 16, 1862. Exchanged at Vicksburg, Mississippi, September 12, 1862. Had been wounded in right hand at Fort Donelson. Enlisted in this company and was captured at Farmington, Tennessee, October 7, 1863. Paroled on oath in April 1864. Double barreled shotgun valued at $20 furnished by self. From Millersville, Sumner County.

Grant, Edwin C.* - Shown on roll through June 1862.

Grant, James W.* - Wounded severely at Meridian, Mississippi, March 9, 1864. Sent to disabled camp at Lauderdale Springs, Mississippi.

Griffin, James P.* - Deserted December 18, 1864, and took the oath.

Hagar, George F. - Transfered from 6th Kentucky Regiment at Corinth, Mississippi. Made 1st Sergeant. Detailed to regimental Quartermaster service, order of Colonel Barteau.

Hall, William P.* - 2nd Sergeant, April 20, 1864. Shown on roll through October 1863.

Harper, William* - Left at home, sick, in 1862. Rejoined regiment. Enlisted in Company F, 9th Tennessee Infantry, also see.

Harshaw, James* - Deserted August 10, 1863, and took the oath.

Harris, Tyree W. - Transfered from Company I, 2nd Tennessee Infantry at Corinth, Mississippi. Given sick furlough September 9, 1862, and did not return.

Houston, Eli* - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Hunter, Green C.* - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

James, James R.* - 2nd Corporal, June 15, 1862, at reorganization. Discharged on disability April 18, 1863.

James, John* - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Johnson, James W.* - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Kirby, S. Houston* - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Lassiter, Solomon* - Detailed as Teamster, June 12, 1862 by Colonel Barteau.

Link, D. Rice H. - Prior service in Company E, 30th Tennessee Infantry, also see. Walked to Johnsonville, Tennessee, to enlist in this company. Lived near Cottontown, then known as Hilham. Enlisted in November 1864. Was on Hood's Invasion of Tennessee. Retreated to Old Town, Mississippi. Sent by Captain Brinkley to Manleyville in West Tennessee to serve with Captain J. C. Stone as a Conscript Officer, then to Fort Donelson to be paroled May 13, 1865.

Mansfield, Pendleton E.* - Deserted February 15, 1865. Took the oath.

McCourt, Landon L. - Transfered to Company H, 2nd Tennessee Infantry and was missing at Shiloh April 7, 1862.

McCullough, David - Deserted January 1, 1862. Double barreled shotgun valued at $20 furnished by Henry Lindsey.

McMillan, James C. - Enlisted in June 1862. Wounded at Harrisburg, Mississippi, July 13, 1864. Prior service in Company C, 6th Cavalry.

Menifee, James M.* - On detached service order Colonel Barteau.

Norton, Stephen A.* - Captured at Okolona, Mississippi, December 23, 1862 while guarding the B & 0 Railroad. Exchanged. Discharged on disability January 19, 1863.

Patton, Andrew - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Petway, James M.* - In battles of Shiloh, Okolona, Memphis, Fort Pillow, Harrisburg, Paducah, Athens and Franklin, Tennessee.

Petway, Thomas W. - Prior service in Company A, Captain Carter, Murray's 4th Tennessee Cavalry. Enlisted in this company May 1, 1862. In battles at Murfreesboro and Sugar Creek. Wounded in head at Murfreesboro. Captured at Gallatin in February 1863, while serving with a scouting party. In prison at Gallatin. Sent to Nashville. Paroled. Never exchanged.

Pittman, James M. - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Prewitt, James - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862.

Pyron, Sterling B. - Enlisted October 10, 1861, for one year. Developed kidney disease. Discharged on disability. Enlisted in Company F, 9th Tennessee Cavalry, also see. Shotgun valued at $20 furnished by self.

Siddons, James G.* - Enlistment expired October 19, 1862. Double barreled shotgun valued at $25 furnished by self.

Siddons, G. W. - Transfered from Company H, 2nd Tennessee Infantry April 4, 1862. Detailed to General Cosby's Staff, January 15, 1863, order of Colonel Barteau. Captured at Florence, Alabama, March 15, 1864, on Hood's retreat from Tennessee. Sent to Camp Chase, Ohio, then to Point Lookout, Maryland. Also in Company F, 9th Tennessee Cavalry a short time.

Siddons, Gilbert L. - 4th Corporal at reorganization. On detached service December 30, 1863. Furnished horse valued at $1,700. Double barreled shotgun valued at $25 furnished by self. Transfered to Company G, 22nd Tennessee Cavalry, June 15, 1862. Smith, John H.* - Deserted May 10, 1863. Double barreled shotgun valued at $20 furnished by self.

Stafford, William H.* - Enlisted for one year in November 1861. Discharged on disability from Measles at Corinth, Mississippi, in May 1862.
