Hon. D. A. Montgomery, farmer and school-teacher, is a native of Sumner County, born in 1852, and one of a family of three children born to John and Margaret (Taylor) Montgomery. The father was born in Sumner County, in 1826, of English descent, and a farmer by occupation. The mother was also a native of Sumner County, born in 1827 and of English descent. Our subject received his early education in the county schools and later attended Cumberland University at Lebanon. In 1873 he began to work for himself, and in February, 1874, he married Miss Callie A. Kirkpatrick, daughter of Taylor and Mildred Kirkpatrick. She was born in Sumner County, Tenn., February, 1855, and by her marriage became the mother of one child, Robert S. Mr. Montgomery has been a Democrat all his life. He was elected justice of the peace in 1883, which office he now holds. He represented Sumner County, in the State Legislature in 1886, and received the largest number of votes any man received in Sumner County. He is one of the county's best citizens and has the respect of all. He and Mrs. Montgomery are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
