MORE COTHRON HISTORY

We are in receipt of a letter from Mrs. W. T. Oldham, of Hartsville, giving us some more facts about the Cothron family.  Her letter is as follows:

        Brother Gregory:

I am sending you the family history of Will Cothron, Uncle Bill, as he as called.  He married Lizzie Gammon and had four children.  John, Gabriel, Lambert and Cora Cothron.  John Cothron married Ellen Stafford and had four children by her; Beulah, Willie, Florence and Carmie.  Beulah married Nelson Oldham, son of Samuel Oldham; Willie died as a young man of 23, Florence married W. T. (Bud) Oldham, son of Mrs. Emmie Oldham; Carmie did not marry.  After the death of Ellen Stafford Cothron, John married Lena Redditt, by whom he had two children, one of whom died in infancy, and the other, Augusta, married Floyd Carman.  Later Lena died and afterward, John Cothron married Mary Haynie.  He, John Cothron, was 89 years old on July 8th.

Gabriel Cothron married Bettie Nunley and had two children by her, one of them dying in infancy.  The other, Clearance, married Donald Beasley, and later married Homer Cole.

Lambert Cothron married Mollie Smith, by whom he had five children, Graves, Gabriel, Jr., Cagie, Mamie and Thurman Cothron.  Graves died as a young man, Gabriel married Florence Parker, Cagie married Myrtle Gregory, Mamie married Sam Merryman,  and Thurman died as a small boy.

Cora Cothron, daughter of Uncle Bill, married C. D. (Chalk) Brooks, and had the following children: Gilliam, Tina, Iva and Susie.  Gilliam died as a young man, Tina married Charlie Gregory, son of Ches Gregory; Iva married Floyd Smith, and Susie married Jesse Merryman.

I enjoyed reading the history of the Cothron family as you have it some time ago in the Times.  I did not know that there were so many of them.  I am keeping the record as you gave it and thank you for writing it.

                                                                    Yours Truly,

                                                                    Mrs. W. T. Oldham

(Editor’s Note: We thank Mrs. Oldham for the above contribution to the history or line of descend of the Cothron family.  We have some additional information that we hope to give soon.)
