Hickman County News Centreville, Hickman Co., Tenn. Thurs. Nov. 13, 1924 Damage Suit Filed in Murder Case Mrs. Charles H. TIDWELL Institutes Suit for $50,000 against Alleged Murderer of Her Husband Suit was filed in circuit court of Davidson County the latter part of last week by Mrs. Charles H. TIDWELL by her attorney, W. C. Cherry, against Solon MADDUX in the amount of $50,000. Both principals are citizens of Bellevue, the suit having grown out of the tragic death of Mr. TIDWELL at his home on the morning of Oct. 23. The wife of the victim, his sister Mrs. Turner MYATT of Bon Aqua, this county, and the several children of the two families were witnesses to the tragedy, Mrs. TIDWELL later swearing out a warrant for the arrest of MADDUX. The latter surrendered to the Davidson County authorities on Friday following the death of TIDWELL at a Nashville infirmary where he was taken immediately after the fatal shooting. TIDWELL was a former Hickman Countian who had always borne a splendid reputation. He had been a share-cropper on the farm of MADDUX only the past year, having been remarkably successful in the growth of a record crop of cotton, according to a published report accompanied by the reproduction of a photograph of TIDWELL, as published by a leading Nashville paper early this fall. His wife was formerly Miss Gertie WHITE of near the Hickman-Dickson county line and close relatives in this county are Mrs. George LOVELL and G. N. TIDWELL of Lyles, and Mrs. Turner MYATT of Bon Aqua. Another sister, Mrs. W. M. HUTCHISON, lives at Burns. |
