PROMINENT FARMER MEETS TRAGIC DEATH
R. F. HAYNES, Father of Former Centreville Matron, Killed by Bull on
Rutherford Farm
R. F. HAYNES, prominent farmer of Rutherford County and
father of Mrs. Walter ROBERTSON who formerly lived here, was instantly
killed on Sunday morning at his home near Murfreesboro when attacked by an
angry bull. The horribly mutilated body was found by members of the
family who investigated the cause of Mr. HAYNES' failure to return from a
trip to the farm pasture for the purpose of giving salt to his herd of
cattle. Evidence of a mighty struggle was found in the footprints
and torn shubbery near the scene of the tragedy.
Mr. HAYNES was a man of considerable wealth and was a native
of Rutherford County: He was educated at Union University, Jackson, Tenn.,
and lived in West Tennessee several years. He returned to his native
county 12 years ago, and was a highly respected and influential citizen, a
member of the Christian church and prominent in affairs of his community.
Surviving are four sons, James, Richard, George and Bryant;
and two daughters, Mrs. ROBERTSON and Miss Elizabeth HAYNES who is well
known here where she was often a guest in her sister's home.
