GHASTLY SUICIDE OF FORMER CITIZEN

L. C. GOSSETT Found with Throat Slashed at Home of Brother in Dickson: Ill Health Cause

Lum C. GOSSETT, former Hickman Countian and later a citizen of the state of Iowa, ended his life of 63 years on Monday at the home of his brother, John Moody GOSSETT in Dickson.  A razor found with the body of the dead man, whose throat was slashed from ear to ear, was mute testimony of the tragic end.
No cause other than failing health is known for the deed.  Deceased had disposed of business interests in his adopted state and had spent last winter in Florida for the benefit of impaired health.  He arrived in Dickson during the early spring, apparently greatly improved, and the intervening time has been spent there and with relatives in this county where he was born and raised on Mill Creek, near Wrigley.
Apparently the tragic event occurred several hours previous to its discovery by the surviving brother, who is an engineer on the Centreville branch of the N. C. & St. L. Railway.  Returning from the day's run, the body of the victim was found in a pool of blood in the bathroom of the GOSSETT home.  The victim was left in charge of the home during working hours of his brother, whose wife was on a visit with relatives in Louisiana.
Funeral services were held at the Dickson Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon, followed by burial at the Union Cemetery.
Deceased was a son of the late Perry GOSSETT, prominent citizen of the Fifth civil district.  He had never been married and had been a resident of the state of Iowa a number of years past.  Many friends of his earlier manhood in this county are shocked at the tragedy, which brought sorrow to the hearts of hosts of friends in Tennessee and in his adopted state.
