Following is a transcription of the above person's (TN) obituary from the Stewart
County Review of Cumberland City, TN, dated August 9, 1913:
Mr. J. M. Nesbit, aged 76 years, died at Erin this morning at
twenty minutes past one o'clock from paralysis. He was born in Dickson County, but had
lived in Erin for thirty years, during which time he served as magistrate and also Clerk
and Master of Houston County.
Mr. Nesbit served in the war of the '60's under Col. Bailey's
regiment, was a prisoner at Johnson's Island and also at Camp Douglas. In 1889 he was
married to Miss Broom. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and for
twenty-five years was an elder.
Mr. Nesbit was a furniture dealer and funeral director. He made
many friends during his long, useful life, who extend sympathy to the bereaved wife.
The funeral will be from the residence Saturday afternoon at 3
o'clock, with interment at the Erin cemetery.
