Following is a transcription of the above person's (TN) obituary from the Springfield
Spectator, Springfield, Robertson Co., TN, dated 07/07/1860:
Died on the 20th ult., James A., infant son of J. E. and Rebecca
T. BELL, aged one year, eight months and twenty two days. Having been a delicate
child, he was the pet and favorite of the family, and from his remarkably intelligent and
(illegible) chat, was the special delight of strangers and visitors. The delicate
body was indeed too frail to enchain the budding intellect, which left its tenement of
clay and returned to the God that gave it, where it has become an angel of mercy pleading
for the father and mother, the brothers and sisters, that are left behind. It is
nestled in the bosom of Him that has said "suffer little children to come unto me and
hinder them not, for of such is the kingdom of God."
He's gone from this terrestrial sphere
To dwell in peace with those above.
Was torn from all who loved him here,
To realize that God is love.
Mourn not for little Jammie, dear,
The gentle, lovely, noble boy;
Repress the gentle rising tear,
Unless it be the tear of joy:
For he's at rest with angels bright
On Canaan's fair and blissful shore;
Arrayed in robes of spotless white,
To sing His praise for evermore.
J. T. W.
