YOUNG MATRON DIES AT HOSPITAL HERE
Mrs. Richard T. SHANES of Only, Is Victim of Acute Condition; Burial at
Cemetery South of Coble
Mrs. Gladys Beard SHANES, 20 years of age and the wife of
Richard T. SHANES of near Only, died at Edwards Infirmary on Friday
evening after a short and critical illness. The remains were buried
on Saturday afternoon at the Horseshoe Bend cemetery, 7 miles south of
Coble, a short service being held at the grave.
Suffering intensely and in what was said to be a critical
condition, the victim of an illness which has an aspect of tragedy, was
brought here in a desperate effort to save the life of the young
woman. A weakened condition is said to have prevented the expected
reaction following an operation, and a period of unconsciousness was
followed by a peaceful passing into eternity.
Mrs. SHANES was a daughter of the late Sid BEARD and Mrs.
Josie Hill Beard THARP of Nashville. Besides her husband she is
survived by two daughters, Elizabeth aged 5 years, and Mary aged 3.
She was born in this county and later moved to Lewis County, where she was
married at the age of fourteen years. Many friends in both counties
are grieved at the death of the beloved young woman.
