Elisha BATTLE was born in Virginia (Nansemond Co., N. C.) the 7th day of
Jan. 1723 and died in North Carolina, Edgecombe Co., the 6th day of March,
1799.
His place of residence during the Revolution was Edgecombe County, N. C.

I was born in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.

I am the daughter of Frank BATTLE, born 1841, died 1917, and his wife Sarah Elizabeth HOWSE, born 1842, died 1924, married 1866.

The said Frank BATTLE was the child of Joel Allen BATTLE, born 1811, died
1872 and his wife Adelane Saunders MOSELY born 1814, died 1883, married
1836.

The said Joel Allen BATTLE was the child of Isaac BATTLE, born 1775, died 1816, and his wife Lycinda Atkinson MAYS, born 1788, died ____,  married 1803.

The said Isaac BATTLE was the child of William BATTLE, born 1751, died 1781, and his wife Charity HORN, married 1774.

The said William BATTLE was the child of Elisha BATTLE, born 1723, died 1799,
and his wife Elizabeth SUMNER, born ____, died 1794, married 1742.

The said Elisha BATTLE was the child of John BATTLE, born _____August, 1690,
    died ____, and his wife Elizabeth.

Elisha BATTLE assisted in establishing American Independence, while acting
in the capacity of Member of the Provincial Congress of North Carolina, ____,
1776 to Nov. 1776, and State Senator 1777, 1778, 1779, 1780,—1783.


Ancestor's Services

Elisha BATTLE’s in assisting in the establishment cf American Independence during the War of the Revolution were as follows:

He was a member of State Congress of North Carolina which met at Hillsboro
April 1776 and voted to empower our delegates to vote for Independence, the
first of the “Original Thirteen States.”
He was on a committee and voted for troops and supplies. He was a delegate
to State Congress which met at Halifax, N. C. Nov. 1776 and which adopted
the Constitution of free North Carolina. He was State Senator from Edgecombe
Co. 1777 to 1783, (inclusive, except 1782) and voted for heavy taxation and the raising of troops.
