Following is a transcription of the above person's (TN) obituary from the Dickson
County Herald, Dickson, Dickson Co., TN, dated Friday 12/17/1909:
Egbert GORSE was born April 19, 1837, near Buffalo, N. Y.
He was by occupation, a saddle and harness maker. He came to Tennessee in 1891 for
the benefit of his health, and has lived in and near Dickson until his death, which
occurred at his home Dec. 1, 1909.
Deceased had not been in robust health for several years, but was active in the pursuit of
his avocations almost up to his death. He had been a patient sufferer for years, but
never complained; he was cheerful and courageous to the end.
There were many thing about the life of Egbert GORSE that
commended him to the careful consideration of the refined and thoughtful, his morals were
beyond question, he was honest and truthful and his ideal was a gentleman. He made a
pet of everything. He loved his horse and dog, and they were at his command, thus
bringing out the finer qualities of the inner man. He saw the hand of one greater
than man in all things, and tried to use and not misuse what our Master had given.
He was a good citizen and made the world brighter and better. He leaves a wife to
mourn her loss which we believe is his gain.
After funeral services at his home, attended by many of his
neighbors and friends, the remains were interred in Union Cemetery. He is in the
hands of a just God, who gives to all their portion. We hope, by faith in God on our
part, to see him again.
