Knoxville Gazette Vol. 3, #24
On the fifth instant a party of fifty Indians on the waters of the Red River Tennessee County fell upon the families of Col. Isaac Titsworth and his brother John Titsworth and killed and scalped seven white persons, wounded a negro wench and took a white man, three children and a negro fellow, prisoners. Pursuit was given by the neighboring Militia, and the Indians discovering their approach, tomahawked the three children taking off the whole skin of their heads. The white man and negro fellow were either killed or carried off. Our informer from the Mero District supposes these murders to have been committed by the Creeks.
Vol. #1
Mr. Roulstone, Please to give the following a place in your paper. On the 5th of October, 1794, on the waters of Red River, myself and family, together with the family of John Titsworth, were attacked by Indiams about 12 'oclock at night; my wife, John Titsworth, his wife, one child, and one of my childen and one negro (were) killed on the ground, and captured three of my children, one of John Titsworth's and a negro. Next day, being pursued by Major Maulden and others, they killed and scalped one of my children, and wounded and scalped another of John Titsworth's, then made off with a daughter of mine, about 13 years of age, named Peggy, and a negro boy about 15 or 16 years of age, named Mingo. I hope every person this notice reaches will make inquiry for the prisoners; and if by treaty, purchase or otherwise, my daughter is recovered from the hands of the savages, no sums of money that they may cost shall ever be regretted by me, but cheerfully paid to any person who may purchase her or have trouble in maintaining her until I can receive information.
Isaac Titsworth
