State of Tennessee, Marion County.

This indenture made and entered into this 24th day of February 1879 by and between Thomas N. Smith and Lorinda Smith of the County of Sequatchee and the State of Tennessee of the one part and B. F. Smith of the County of Marion and State of Tennessee of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thomas N. Smith and Lorinda Smith, his wife, hath this day bargained, sold and delivered to the said B. F. Smith for the sum of Two thousand and five hundred dollars in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and sixty acres more or less, situated in the 5th Civil District of Marion County, Tennessee on the East side of Sequatchee River.

Beginning on a white oak on the south east bank of said river thence down the same as it meanders S. 47� W. 18 poles S. 75� W. 16 poles, [S.] 71� W. 46 poles South 50 poles S. 28� E. 48 poles S. 19� E. 50 poles to an elm and water oak, thence East one hundred and thirty two poles to a water oak on J. Maxwells line thence North 44 poles to a poplar, thence [N.] 18� E. 80 poles to a black oak, thence [N.] 66� W. 40 poles to a hickory, thence N. 49� W. 67 poles to a black gum, thence west to the beginning containing one hundred and sixty acres more or less together with all that appertains thereunto to the said B. F. Smith, his heirs executors and assigns, to have and to hold the right whereof I do bind a sale, my heirs executors and assigns forever to warrant and defend against the lawful claims of all others.

Personally appeared before me J. A. Stewart, Clerk of the County Court of said county, Thomas M. Smith and Lorinda Smith, the within named bargainers with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that they executed the within Deed for the purposes therein contained and Lorinda Smith, wife of said Thomas M. Smith, appeared before me privately and apart from her husband, said Lorinda Smith acknowledged the execution of the said Deed to have been done by her freely, voluntarily and understandingly without compulsion or constraint from her said husband and for the purposes therein expressed.

Witness, J. A. Stewart, Clerk of said Court at office, this 21st day of December A. D. 1880.
