George S. & Martha Jane SmithThis indenture made and entered into on this 1st day of April 1873 by and between E. A. Teague and B. F. Smith of the one part and George S. & Martha Jane Smith of the other part all of the County of Marion and state of Tennessee. Witnesseth in and for the consideration of eight hundred dollars and for the love and affection we have for our children George S. & Martha Jane Smith we this day do convey unto them a certain parcel or tract of land containing fifty acres more or less, lying in the 3rd Civil District of Marion County on the waters of Leoney Creek known as one half of a hundred acre tract of land that E. A. Teague formerly purchased of Thos Smith and also known as a part of the Ephraim Brenon lands bounded as follows and adjoining the land of Ransom Smith, John R. Holoway & Leoney�s heirs and others.
Beginning at a stake on the bank of the branch near John R. Holoway�s spring in said Holoways line and the corner of said land. Thence South 30 poles to a white oak stump thence East 18 � poles to a rock corner in J. R. Holoway�s Line thence South 13 � west fifty poles & eight links to a rock corner on the south side of a school house. Thence South 74 west along a lane 72 � poles to a black oak near the bank of Smith�s Spring branch G. P. Holoway corner of a tract of land that Alfred Smith purchased of E. A. Teague. Thence North 56 west thirty five and � poles to a stake. Thence North 19 East 68 � poles to a stake thence North 56 west 14 poles to a stake in the middle of the wagon road thence with the middle of said road to the ford or Leoney Creek, thence up said creek as it meanders to the south of J. R. Holoways Spring branch, Thence up said branch as it meanders to the beginning. To have and to hold the same with all singular and appertaining thereunto. We bind ourselves, our heirs and representatives to warrant and forever defend the title to said land and every part thereof against the lawful claims of all persons whatsoever, and we also convey to them the right and priviledge of free access to and from the Big Spring for the purpose of getting using water for domestic purposes and also the priviledge of building a milk house and using the same. In Testimony we have hereunto set our hands and seals day and date above written.
