The Palmore/Palmer family of Hardin County Tennessee came from South Carolina, Daviess and Knox Counties IN to Lauderdale and Jackson Counties Alabama and were in the 1830 census. Documentation is scarce but I am going to try to reconstruct their movements and if I make a mistake, I am certain to hear about it swiftly. That's okay... I 'm counting on it. As early as I have been able to document this family is in Ft. Hawkins, Knox County IN, December 25, 1814, where Martin Palmer, b. March 6, 1791; d June 22, 1871 married Hetty Morgan, b. Union Dist., S.C., June 22, 1790; d July 28, 1869 and 1817 when there was an election held at Martin Palmer's home. The next documentation I have is Martin Palmer, is in the (Pioneers History of Indiana) War of 1812 , Indiana Militia, as was Thomas Palmer, b. 1787 SC, who I believe to be closely related. Thomas was in the Company of the Light Dragoons from September 18, 1811 to November 19, 1811. In the 1820 Census of Knox Co. IN, on page 88, there is a Joshua and Thomas Palmer. Joshua has no family enumerated with him and is in the 45+ age group. Thomas has one male under 10, one male 10-16, himself...26-under 45, 4 females under 10 and one female 26-under 45 and 1 female over 45. Other Palmer names found in documents as early as 1807 of Daviess and Knox Counties are: Richard Palmer from SC had Palmer's Fort and aside from himself being enumerated, there is also a Benjamin, Thomas, John, and William Palmer at the fort. Parmenas Palmer from KY was there as early as 1811. We can find no other documentation on our direct families until the 1830 Census of Lauderdale County AL, page 211, where Martin Palmer is enumerated with his family; 1 male under 5, one male 5-10, himself 30-40, 1 female under 5, 2 females 15 - 20, 1 female 40-50 (Hetty). Thomas D. Palmore (My direct line) is enumerated in Jackson County AL, page 97, with one male 10-15 (William B. Willbourne), one male 15-20, (Martin H., b. abt. 1813, my ggggrandfather), himself, 40-50, 1 female 15-20, 2 females 40-50. He is listed as living at East of 4th Range. On the West of 4th Range, there is a John Palmer, 30-40, no other males in the census, 1 female under 5 and 1 female 30-40. I have been unable to locate Martin or Thomas D. Palmer in a census of 1820. If anyone does locate either of these people, please notify me. In 1840, Martin Palmore was in Wayne Co. TN census and he and Hetty lived there and are enumerated in the 1850 census with grandchildren, Sarah and Margaret, Simeon's daughters. Simeon was their youngest son b. 1822 IN who married to Elizabeth Boyd who died May 7, 1857 and is buried in the Union Cemetery in the part of Union County MS that was formerly Lee County MS. In the Hardin County 1860 census, I find Martin and Hetty enumerated with their son, Simeon and his two daughters, Margaret and Sarah. In the 1850 census of Oktibbeha Co., MS,(Pg. 304B Microfim...pg. 100 Ancestry.com) Simeon Palmore, 28, b. Indiana is working for Isabella Montgomery as an overseer. Martin and Hetty had children: Elizabeth Mariah, b. 1815 IN who married James (McPhaul) Duncan McFall, b. 1805. Joshua Thomas, b. 1819 IN, married Elizabeth "Betsy" Graham in Hardin County.
