This is a photograph of "Scrape's Folley" or "The Neil House". It is
located a 501 High Street in Trenton. It is the first house of much size
built in the county after its establishment in 1823. The house was built
around 1829 or 1830 by James D. Scrape. The Scrapes' owned the house for a
number of years until it was sold to W.K. Jones, president of the old
Melrose College for girls, that was located behind this house.  At the time
of the Civil War, this was the tallest home in Trenton. Stories are told
that some residents of Trenton climbed to the roof of this home and watched
the Battle of Trenton. The battle was fought near the depot on what is
known as Texas Hill. Soon after the end of the war the home was owned by
Dr. Love. Dr. Love lost a great deal of his wealth, so Judge Matt Marshall
Neil bought the home from Dr. Love in about 1875.

The ceilings of the house are about 14 feet high. The rooms in the house
are a large 19 x 20 feet. In the last few years the home has gone into some
disrepair. It is owned by the First Presbyterian Church of Trenton. It was
given to them by Judge Neil's daughters at the time of their death.
