(Note: I was told that this cemetery was started when an Upchurch man went to New Orleans to sell tobacco on occasion and would travel the Natchez Trace, which was a dangerous route. He made the comment to Francis Marion Upchurch that if he ever had to follow that route again, he hoped he would get sick and died. He did have to go again and caught smallpox and died, but not before infecting his family. His wife and a servant cared for the family and would bury them as they died. The ones who lived were the ones who milked the cows and since cows were carriers of Cowpox. Which is the same family as Small pox, they had developed an immunity which saved them from the Smallpox.)
