Charles M. Williams--Charles M. Williams of Bells died last Friday after being in failing health for sometime. He was 87 years of age and a retired banker. Mr. Williams was cashier of a Henderson bank for a number of years. He was reared in Crockett County and was a member of one of the prominent pioneer families. He had made his home in Bells for a number of years. He was married to Miss Elinor McDonald 66 years ago. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Paul B. Conley of Alamo; three sons, C. M. Williams of Bells, Don Williams of Paducah, Ky., and Max Williams of Little Rock, Ark.; two half brothers, Earl Williams and Hicks Williams of Humboldt; two half sisters, Mrs. Fannie Lemond of Alamo and Mrs. Shepp Cox of Humboldt. Mr. Williams was a member of the First Christian Church of Bells where services were held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. E. B. Motley officiating, assisted by Don J. Kester. Burial was in Belleview Cemetery with Ronk Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Nora Elizabeth Hart--Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at the Cross Roads Church of Christ for Mrs. Nora Elizabeth Hart, who died at her home near Bells Tuesday a.m. Bro. R. E. Black officiated. Burial was in Robertson Cemetery with Ronk Funeral Home in charge. She was 77. She leaves four sons, Otis Griffin of Bells, Barney Hart of Humboldt, Bunyon Hart of Bells and Walter Hart of Brownsville; four daughters, Mrs. Josephine Sadler of Bells, Mrs. George Cirt of Bells and Mrs. Pauline Cole of Memphis; two brothers, Ernest Pipkins of Alamo and Homer Pipkins of Columbia, Tenn.; three sisters, Mrs. Claudia King and Mrs. Mattie Kinser of Columbia and Mrs. Tommie Ham of Alamo. George Clyde Prescott--Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at the Barker's Chapel Baptist Church, Maury Junction for Mr. George Clyde Prescott who died at Lexington Bros. Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., Thursday. Bro. Fitts, pastor of Barker's Chapel Church officiated. Burial was in Pond Creek Cemetery with Friendship Funeral Home in charge. He was born in Crockett County May 28th, 1888 and was living in St. Louis, Mo. at the time of his death. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Annie Lee Prescott of Bonne Terre, Mo.
Birthday Dinner--Mrs. J. F. Harwell of Friendship entertained with a birthday dinner Sunday for her sister, Mrs. H. D. Culwell of Bells. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Tucker and son, Clifton of Meridian, Miss., Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Sims and son Bobby, Mrs. W. B. Strong of Alamo and Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Culwell of Bells.
Price - Clark--In a quiet ceremony at the home of the Rev. R. B. Patterson in Corinth, Miss., October 13, 1951, Dorothy Price, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Price of Friendship became the bride of Billie Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Clark of Tigrett. Their only attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Holland, sister and brother in law of the groom. They will make their home near Tigrett where Mr. Clark is a young farmer.

Wreck Injuries Fatal to Mrs. G. E. Manning--Mrs. Mary E. Manning of 1258 Carr of Memphis died at 11:20 Sunday morning at Jackson from injuries received in an automobile and truck collision the night before. She was 28. Highway Patrolmen Lyle Black and Joe W. Johnston said Mrs. Manning was riding in a car with her husband, G. E. Manning. Their car collided with a truck driven by Taylor Turnage and was thrown into the path of a second truck driven by Don Earnheart. The accident occurred about midnight at Highways 20 and 54 between Maury City and Alamo. Earnheart, 17, was treated for injuries at Brownsville Hospital. The others were not hurt. Services were held at 2:00 Monday afternoon at Maury City Church of Christ. Burial was at Maury City Cemetery. National Funeral Home was in charge. Mrs. Manning also leaves her mother, Mrs. Clyde Ballenger of Maury City, and a sister, Sandra Kay Hughes of Memphis. Maury City--A large crowd attended the funeral of Mrs. G. E. Manning at the Church of Christ Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Mr. Needham, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. L. A. Smithmier of the Methodist Church conducted the service. Mr. and Mrs. Mervil Manning of Finley, Mrs. Robert Jones of Dyersburg, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wimberly of Jackson, Mrs. Lucile Simmons, Mrs. Rupert Clark and daughter, Virginia Dare of Memphis attended the funeral. James Ernest May-Funeral services were held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Alamo for Mr. James Ernest May, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anna Moore, near Trenton. Bro. R. E. Black officiated. Burial was in Alamo Cemetery with Friendship Funeral Home in charge. He was born in Crockett County August 22, 1880. He leaves his daughter, Mrs. Moore, another daughter, Mrs. Ruth Harber of Trenton, Rt. 1, and three sons, James L. May and Richard May of Fresno, Calif., and Raymond May of Bain Bridge, Md. Mrs. J. M. Knaebel-Memphian's Sister Dies on West Coast--Mrs. Maggie Sherrod Knaebel, sister of Mrs. W. C. Welborn of 2017 Higbee, Memphis, died at her home at Van Nuys, Calif. at 11:50 Friday night. She was 77. Born at Bells, Tenn., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Sherrod, she was educated there and at Nashville. For many years she taught music in Tennessee and California. She also leaves her husband, J. M. Knaebel; a daughter, Mrs. Mary E. Braddy; a sister, Mrs. J. A. Caldwell, all of Van Nuys. Sincere sympathy is felt for the relatives of the Sherrod family who have experienced the loss of three close relatives recently. Mrs. W. A. Wainright, Mr. G. C. Sherrod of Washington, D.C. and Mrs. Knaebel have passed away within the last three weeks. Coxville--Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Emison attended the funeral of her uncle Lewis Crocker at Walnut Grove Methodist Church near Idlewild last Monday.

Birthday Celebration--Mr. A. D. Yearwood was given a nice surprise Sunday when his relatives gathered with covered dishes to help him celebrate his birthday anniversary. Guests included Mrs. A. D. Yearwood and daughter, Miss Mary Yearwood, Mr. and Mrs. Cloyce Johnson, Mary Louise and Carolyn, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Yearwood, Alfred, Jr. and Gwendolyn of Memphis, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mount and Charles, Mr. and A. E. Drinkard and Mrs. Bess Pinkston. He also received many nice gifts and for both host and guests it was a most enjoyable day.
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Nichols, Sr.--Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Nichols, Sr. of near Alamo celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary September 23. Mrs. Nichols is the former Miss Willie McNatt. Mr. Nichols is a retired merchant, ginner and farmer. They have four children: W. E. Nichols, Jr., of Alamo, Mrs. H. D. Lyons of near Alamo, Mrs. John S. Austin of Maury City and Mrs. J. C. Wright of near Alamo.
Lanier - Conley--Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lanier of Alamo announce the marriage of their daughter, Barbara Ann to C. H. Conley, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude H. Conley of Alamo on Wednesday afternoon, October 31, in Corinth, Miss. Dawn Love and Larry Edwards were their only attendants. Both Mr. and Mrs. Conley were students of Alamo High School.

Mrs. Jimmie Naylor--Mrs. Jimmie Bowen Naylor, widow of S. B. Naylor, died at 4:20 Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. T. Bell of Auburntown, Tenn. Mrs. Naylor had been in ill health for several years. She was 88. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at the First Methodist Church in Bells with the Rev. J. P. Irion of Jackson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Guy Halford of Bells. Burial was in Bells Cemetery with Goosmann Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Naylor made her home in Bells until a few years ago, but has lived with her daughter in Auburntown for several years. She leaves her daughter, five sons, A. B. Naylor and A. I. Naylor of Helena, Ark., L. O. Naylor of West Memphis, Ark., H. L. Naylor of Brownsville and Bowen Naylor of Bells, seven grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. T. W. Lowry of Bells. Mrs. Albert Peal--Mrs. Albert Peal died at her home in Halls Sunday night after an illness of about three months. Mrs. Peal was born and reared near Maury City and was the wife of Albert Peal, well known city employee of Halls. She was 63 and a member of the Church of Christ. Services were held Tuesday morning at the Church of Christ in Halls, Ross O. Spears of Dyersburg officiating. Burial was in Sudbury Cemetery at Friendship with Sudbury Funeral Home in charge. She leaves her husband; a sister, Mrs. Emma Murray of Nashville; two brothers, Leon Agee of Bonicord and Albert Agee of Bells. She had many friends in this county who will be deeply grieved to learn of her passing. "Uncle" Sam Acred--Sam Acred, familiarly known by young and old as "Uncle Sam", died Monday night at the home of his son Dennis, near Quincy. He was for many years employed by Robertson & Hamlett at Crockett Mills as teamster, hauling freight from Bells before the railroad was built. He retired a number of years ago and lived in Alamo a greater part of the time in a little house just off the East side of the Square. He was highly respected by all who knew him. "Uncle" Sam was 85 years of age and a member of the Alamo Methodist Church. He leaves three sons, Dennis and Homer of near Quincy and Sam of Dyersburg; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Clark of Brownsville, Mrs. Rose Laman and Mrs. Eliza Poole of near Alamo. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 11:00 o'clock at Providence Baptist Church with Rev. E. R. Roach of Alamo officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Friendship Funeral Home in charge. Mary Jane White--Funeral services were held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Maury City Church of Christ for Mrs. Mary Jane White, who died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. John Arnold in Milan, Saturday. R. E. Black and James Needham of Maury City officiated. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery with Friendship Funeral Home in charge. She was born in Crockett County and would have been 80 years old in a very few days. She was married to William J. White in 1894. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Farmer of Halls Rt., and Mrs. America Pugh of Peoria, Ill.; one son Robert White of Milan; six grand children and three great grandchildren. James F. Stamps--James F. Stamps died Tuesday of a heart attack in Crockett Mills. Mr. Stamps was 74 years of age and was a life long resident of the Crockett Mills community, a well-known farmer and a member of the Crockett Mills School Board. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Crockett Mills and active in church and community affairs. Jim Stamps was a good citizen and held in high esteem. He was a life long friend of the editor of this paper and his death came as a shock to his wide circle of friends. Services were at Crockett Mills Christian Church Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Frank Perry officiating. Burial was in Crockett Mills Cemetery with Friendship Funeral Home in charge. He leaves his wife; two daughters, Mrs. L. W. Burkett of Memphis and Miss Moonyean Stamps of Martin; a stepdaughter, Mrs. R. C. Darnall of Lexington; a brother, Herbert Stamps of California; and three sisters, Mrs. Effie Leggett of Crockett Mills, Mrs. John Lyons of Friendship and Mrs. Lula Brockman of Ft. Worth, Texas. Mrs. H. L. Kirby--Word was received here of the death of Mrs. H. L. Kirby of Halls, Tenn., at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis Wednesday morning. Mrs. Kirby was the sister of Messrs Henry and Alfred Conley and Mrs. Edd Boone, Mrs. Don Warren, Mrs. Watt Hunt; all of Alamo and Mrs. T. J. Williams, Mrs. J. H. Hefley and Mrs. Eva Speight of Memphis and Mrs. A. C. Dresden of Columbia, Miss. Funeral arrangements with the Friendship Funeral Home are incomplete.
Gadsden--Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Reeves are the parents of a son who has been named Clarence Eugene, Jr.
Iris Marie Duncan Married to Jimmy Nolen--The marriage of Miss Iris Marie Duncan of Friendship and Jimmy Nolen of Alamo was solemnized Saturday, Nov. 10th at the home of W. S. McAlilly, officiating minister of Hernando, Miss. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Duncan of Friendship and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. N. Nolen of Alamo. She wore a fall model of pink wool crepe with brown accessories. Her flowers were white carnations. Serving as the bride's only attendant was Mrs. George Faulkner of Alamo. She wore a green wool jersey with gray accessories. Mr. George Faulkner attended Mr. Nolen as best man. Mrs. Nolen is a graduate of the Friendship High School with the class of 1951 and represented her school at the Strawberry Festival in Humboldt in 1950 and 1951. Mr. Nolen is a graduate of Alamo High School. He is now employed by the Crockett Co-Op Oil Company of Alamo. They will make their home in Alamo.

Mrs. H. L. Kirby--Funeral services were held at the South Fork Baptist Church on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. for Mrs. H. L. Kirby, who died Wednesday a.m. at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis. Ernest Boone, minister of the Church of Christ of Alamo officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery with Friendship Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Kirby had been ill for several months. She was reared in Alamo where she has many relatives and friends. She was 56. She leaves her husband, H. L. Kirby, Sr. of Halls; three sons, H. L. Kirby, Jr. of Halls, Dorrence and Raylian Kirby of Memphis; one stepson, Ray Kirby, Halls; one daughter, Mrs. W. K. Sinks of Memphis; two brothers, Henry Conley and Alfred Conley of Alamo; seven sisters, Mrs. W. P. Hunt, Mrs. Edd Boone and Mrs. Don Warren of Alamo, Mrs. J. H. Hefley, Mrs. T. J. Williams and Mrs. Eva Speight of Memphis and Mrs. A. C. Dresden of Columbia, Miss. J. E. Keltner--Services for J. E. Keltner, farmer, were held at 2:00 Saturday afternoon at Providence Methodist Church near Bells with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Keltner, who was 76, died Friday afternoon at his home. Mr. Keltner was a lifelong resident of the community near Bells and was a member of Providence Methodist Church. He leaves six sons, Richard Keltner and Gilbert Keltner of Memphis and Irving Keltner, Prentise Keltner, Woodrow Keltner and Ira Keltner, all of near Bells; two daughters, Mrs. E. S. Webb and Mrs. Vira Whitlaw of Jackson, Tenn., 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Goosmann Funeral Home of Bells in charge. Rufus G. Goodrich--Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at New Shiloh Church for Rufus G. Goodrich, who died at his home in Humboldt Monday. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery with Ronk Funeral Home in charge. He leaves his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Ada Lee Smith and Mrs. Annie McCoy, five sons, Rupert, Alton, Carl, Newt and R. G. Jr., one sister, Mrs. Bertha W. Smith and one brother, John Goodrich. Alamo--Services for Lonnie Haynes, Holly Grove farmer, who died on Thursday in the Haywood County Hospital at Brownsville, were held Saturday at Providence Methodist Church. He was the father of Mrs. Herbert Jones of Alamo. His wife, three sons and three daughters survive.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Lee Holmes--Miss Barbara Gwynn Hughes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Hughes, 501 South Nineteenth Street, became the bride of Wilbur Lee Holmes, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Holmes of East St. Louis, Ill, on Saturday, Nov. 3. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. L. W. Carlin in the Bellview Baptist Church in the presence of relatives and close friends. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Willie Cooper, organist, played several songs. The attendants were Miss Aline Sawyer and Bob Phillips, Miss Joanne Meunier and Allen Holmes, brother of the groom, were ushers and lighted the candles. Following a reception at the home of the bride's parents, the couple left on a wedding trip through the Smoky Mountains. On their return, they will be at home at 427 South Nineteenth. The bride was graduated from Tilghman high school in the class of 1950 and attended Draughon's Business College. She is now employed as office worker for the International Association of Bridge Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers Local No. 595. The bridegroom is a graduate of Chester High School, Chester, Ill., and Draughon's Business College, Paducah and is now employed with F. H. McGraw and Company. --Paducah (Ky.) Sun-Democrat-- The bride is the granddaughter of Mrs. W. J. Carleton of Friendship.

Ewell Boling Laman--Ewell Boling, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Laman died Wednesday at Jackson Madison County Hospital. He was born Tuesday, November 20th. A short service was held at the Ronk Funeral Home Wednesday with Rev. H. A. Townsend of Alamo officiating. Burial was in Alamo Cemetery with Ronk Funeral Home in charge. He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Laman and one brother, Craig Bradford Laman of Alamo. Mrs. Carrie Harris--Mrs. Carrie Wood Harris, widow of the late Dr. John H. Harris, died at her home in Bells Thursday, November 22. She had been in ill health for several years. Mrs. Harris was one of Bells' best-loved women, a devout member of the First Christian Church and active in church work as long as her health would permit. She was a member of one of the pioneer families of the county and was 78 years of age. Her husband who was one of the outstanding physicians of West Tennessee died on January 14 of this year. Services were held Saturday morning at 10:30 at the First Christian Church in Bells, the Rev. E. B. Motley officiating, assisted by Rev. Guy Halford and Rev. J. E. Sharp. Burial was in Belleview Cemetery with Goosmann Funeral Home in charge. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Cunningham of Bells and Mrs. V. L. Summers of Nashville; one son, John Hill Harris of Nashville; two sisters, Mrs. C. J. Montgomery of Bells and Mrs. Robert Kerr of Olive Branch, Miss. William Thomas Sudbury--Mr. William Thomas Sudbury died of a heart attack at his home near Friendship Thursday, November 22nd after an illness of two weeks. He was born in Dyer County October 18th, 1893 and had lived in this section all of his life. He was a farmer and had been employed by the Friendship Light & Water for the past few years. He was married to Georgia Warmath who died a few years ago. They had four daughters, Mrs. W. L. Lawrence of Halls, Mrs. Robert McGill of Nashville, Mrs. W. C. Nash, Jr. of Dyersburg and Mrs. Murrell White of Friendship and one son, Pvt. D. T. Sudbury of the Armed Forces in Germany. He was married to Mary Murphey who survives and two sons by this marriage, James Waymond and Larry Murphy Sudbury; also two sisters, Mrs. Betty Stewart of Friendship and Mrs. W. N. Robinson of Tiptonville. Funeral services were held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Baptist Church in Friendship. Rev. J. T. Drace officiated with Rev. Ben Hill and Rev. Wofford assisting. Burial was in Belle Vernon Cemetery with Friendship Funeral Home in charge. Wilbur Lynn Brasfield--Wilbur Lynn Brasfield died from injuries received from falling off a tractor driven by his brother, James H. Brasfield, near his home on Friendship, Route 3, Monday afternoon. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Brasfield and was 5 years old the day of his death. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Floyd's Chapel with Bro. L. A. Smithmier officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Friendship Funeral Home in charge. He leaves his parents; four brothers, James H., Dallas, Glenn and Morris Wayne Brasfield; one sister, Louise Brasfield and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hawkins and Mr. E. R. Brasfield. William Auburn Tritt--Funeral services were held at the Cairo Baptist Church Monday, November 26th at 1:30 p.m. for William Auburn Tritt, who died at his home in Fayette County on Saturday, November 24th. Bro. L. W. Todd of Alamo officiated. Burial was in Cypress Cemetery with Ronk Funeral Home in charge. He was born July 7, 1903. He leaves his wife Mrs. Lucy Tritt; one daughter, Mrs. Jack Akin, Somerville; his mother Mrs. Minnie Tritt of Humboldt; three sisters, May Tritt of Humboldt, Earline Tritt of Humboldt and Mrs. Ruby Climer of Alamo; three brothers, Henry Tritt of Humboldt, D. D. Tritt of Memphis and Oliver Tritt of Bells.
Prather Clinic Born to Mr. and Mrs. Coy R. Branch, Alamo, Nov. 17, 1951, a daughter, Kay Elizabeth. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Lee Avery, Alamo, Route 1, Nov. 25, 1951, a daughter, Wanda Lee. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Warren H. Tinker, Bells, Rt. 2, Nov. 26, 1951, a daughter, Janice Marie. Announces Birth--Mr. and Mrs. William S. Farmer of Oak Ridge announce the arrival of a daughter on November 13th at the Oak Ridge Hospital. She has been named Martha Jean. Mrs. Farmer is the former Hazel Vernon of the Elizabeth Community.
Mr. and Mrs. Cayce Edwards Honored--On Sunday, Nov. 18, Mr. and Mrs. Cayce Edwards were honored with a dinner in celebration of their 30th wedding anniversary. Those present to help make the day a joyous one were Miss Janice Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Nanney and children, Danny and Brenda, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Edwards and Rickie, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Edwards and children, Sandra and Michael, Mrs. H. L. Casey and Mr. and Mrs. James Edwards and sons, David and Glen. This was an enjoyable occasion with all of the children present except two and seven of the ten grandchildren present.
Betty Jean Porter Wed to William E. Dotson--Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Porter of Bells announce the marriage of their daughter, Miss Betty Jean Porter, to William Earl Dotson, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Dotson of Bells on Nov. 18 at Corinth, Miss. Dr. T. W. Young, Baptist minister, officiated. The bride wore a navy blue suit with navy accessories. Their attendants were Miss Peggy Jo Porter of Memphis, sister of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kirkpatrick of Bells. The couple will live in Memphis. Diggs - Buford--Miss Juanita Diggs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Diggs of Alamo, was married to Legeon Buford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Lee Buford of Bells in the home of the minister, Lindsay A. Allen of Corinth, Miss., on Wednesday, November 14th. She wore a fall suit of brown tweed with matching accessories. Serving as the bride's attendants were Mrs. Ike Jackson of Brownsville and her sister, Miss Nancy Diggs of Alamo. Mr. Robert Daniel served as best man. Mr. Jackson was also an attendant. Mrs. Buford was a student of Alamo High School. Mr. Buford attended Bells High School. He is now employed by the Home Gas Company of Bells. They will make their home with the groom's parents.
