ITEM OF INTEREST

The Editor's Say-So--Mrs. Lillie Stewart Redmond, out on Alamo, Route 1, has had six mothers; her own and five stepmothers; her father, W. J. Stewart, having been married six times. Mr. Stewart lives with his daughter and is 87 years young, and according to his granddaughter, Miss Emeline Redmond, is very active for a man of his age but likes to talk about the days gone by. Mrs. Redmond has one brother, Ethridge. The first Mrs. Stewart was Mary Emison; the second, Willie Ann Brasfield (2 children); third, Alice Trull (1 child); fourth, Nannie Sewell; fifth, Mrs. Nannie Ballentine; sixth, Mrs. Jessie Breece. Mrs. Redmond and Ethridge were mostly reared by the second mother. Miss Emeline had six grandmothers on one side of the family and I forgot to ask how many on the other. She says that she would have had a seventh if she had not objected to Grandpap's matrimonial aspirations and now she doesn't know sometime whether she wished she had or hadn't. Eldon Roark, so far as I know, has never had a stepmother contest, but I believe he couldn't do better than this one. Mr. Stewart is a fine gentleman and was in his day a very successful farmer. He was for a long time overseer on the Robertson home place at Crockett Mills, living just back of the First Christian Church.
