A light from our midst is gone.
A voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our hearts
That never can be filled.
We cannot tell who next may fall,
Beneath thy Chastening Rod.
One must be, but first let us all
Prepare to meet our God

ITEM OF INTEREST

The Editor's Say-So--Fifty-one years ago Jeff Porter and wife, the former Sallie Blurton, and Mrs. Porter's sisters, Minnie and Tiny, "set sail" for the Golden West in a "kivvered" wagon. They left the old home in the Cypress neighborhood near Alamo and except for "Tiny", who is now Mrs. Charley Crockett, none of them ever came back until week before last when they attended the Cypress home coming and visited Mrs. Porter's sister, Mrs. Will Evans. Mr. Porter, who lives in McKinney, Texas, is a brother of the late Charley Porter, known throughout the length and breadth of Crockett as Uncle Charley. Accompanying the Porters were their daughter, Mrs. Elbert Lovell and her husband and two children of McKinney, Texas; Mrs. Minnie Blurton Rash of Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Charley Crockett of Plano, Texas. Those who had been away 51 years found the old town greatly changed. Mr. Porter is 78 and his wife 76. They have a lot of kinfolks in this neck of the woods; lots of nieces and nephews, cousins, etc. and Mrs. Evans who was a visitor at our office Saturday, says it is putting it mildly to say that they all had a grand and glorious time during their visit here and especially on home coming day at Cypress.
