OBITUARY


R. L. GRIFFIN
          Funeral services for R. L. Griffin, aged 77, were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Sudbury Funeral Home in Friendship, Rev C. O. Frey officiated.
          Mr. Griffin died Wednesday at the home of his brother, Will Griffin, in Humboldt.
          He was a son of the late Dr. Griffin, one of the leading citizens and landowners of this section. Mr. Griffin had many friends and was a good citizen. He retired from farming several years ago, and made his home in Friendship for sometime.
          One son, D. W. Griffin, of Memphis; two brothers, W. H. Griffin of Humboldt and Ira Griffin of Friendship, survive.
          The remains were interred in Mt. Zion Cemetery under direction of Sudbury Funeral Home.


MARRIAGE


MAULDIN --- KEATHLEY
          Dr. Franklin Burr Keathley of Dyer and Memphis was married to Miss Dorothy Neild Mauldin of Charlotte, N. C., on January 1st.
          Dr. Keathley is a grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Harwell, Sr., of Friendship, his mother being the former Bertha Harwell.

OBITUARIES


RUSSELL AGEE
          Funeral services for Russell Agee, barber, who died of a heart attack at his home in Friendship Wednesday, were held at 2:00 Thursday afternoon at the Friendship Church of Christ. The Rev. J. E. Green, Jonesboro, Ark., officiated. Burial was in Sudbury Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home. Mr. Agee was 46.
          He was a member of the Friendship Church of Christ, and for many years was a barber in Friendship. He was a progressive citizen and liked by everyone who knew him.
          Mr. Agee is survived by his wife, Jennie Mae Gregory Agee; one brother, Herchel Agee and his mother Mrs. Jim Burrow.


JOE ALLEN MANSFIELD
          Funeral services for Joe Allen Mansfield, farmer, who died at his home here February 10, were held Wednesday, February 11 at 2 p.m. in the Providence Baptist Church with Bro. Lowrance of Maury City, the officiating minister. Burial was in Providence Cemetery with Ronk Funeral Home in charge of the services.
          Mr. Mansfield is survived by his wife; six children, Mrs. Annie Hatch, Marvin Mansfield, William Mansfield, Mrs. Ola May Hensley, Mrs. Merle Love, Mrs. Rebecca Peace; one brother, Mr. Tolley Mansfield and two sisters, Mrs. Lou Burnett and Mrs. Maudie Midgett.


THOMAS E. TATUM
Rites for Jackson Contractor Will be Held Today
          Jackson, Tenn., Feb 8 - Services for Thomas E. Tatum, retired building contractor who died Sunday afternoon at Webb-Williamson Hospital here, will be held at Central Church of Christ at 2:30 Monday afternoon, Norman L. Vaughn, minister of the Central Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery under direction of Griffin Funeral Home. He was 79.
          Mr. Tatum was born and reared in Crockett County. He came to Jackson from Memphis 38 years ago. He was well known in contracting circles. He was an elder in the Central Church of Christ.
          He leaves his wife, three daughters, Mrs. J. G. Long of Jackson, Miss., Mrs. Verna Tatum Holley of Jackson, Tenn., and Mrs. James McDonough of Nashville, and a brother, Jesse W. Tatum of Jackson.

MARRIAGES


JENKINS --- SANFORD
          A wedding of sincere interest to a large number of friends was that of Miss Sara Nelson Jenkins of Jackson and Mr. R. G. Sanford, which took place Monday, February 2 at Memphis. The bride's brother, Rev James D. Jenkins, was the officiating minister and only members of the immediate family were present. Mr. and Mrs. Sanford have returned to their home in Bells where they are receiving best wishes of their many friends.


REDMON --- POSTON
          Miss Sarah Nell Poston, daughter of Mrs. Clyde L. Poston and the late C. L. Poston of Maury City, Tenn., became the bride of William Hal Redmond, son of Mrs. Malcolm Edwards and the late W. O. Redmon of Maury City, in a ceremony February 6 at the home of the bride's mother, in the presence of the immediate families. R. E. Black, Minister of the Church of Christ, officiated.
          The bride wore a two pieced winter wool gabardine dress trimmed with gold braid and sequins and studded with tiny pearls. Her accessories were black suede. Her corsage was a white, purple-throated orchid.
          The bride was graduated from Maury City High School, attended Freed-Hardeman College, Henderson and was a graduate of Miss Wylie's Office Training School, Memphis.
          The groom was graduated from Maury City High School, attended Freed-Hardeman College, Henderson and Memphis School of Commerce, Memphis, Tenn.
          On returning from a short wedding trip, they will reside in Maury City where Mr. Redmond is in business.


FAIRCLOTH --- TERRY
          Mr. Teddy Faircloth and Miss Beatrice Terry were united in marriage in a double ring ceremony February 7 at Corinth, Miss., by the Rev. T. W. Young, Baptist minister. Mrs. Faircloth wore a beautiful pastel blue, spring dress, her flowers being gardenias.
          Mrs. Faircloth is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Terry and Mr. Faircloth is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Faircloth. Since her graduation she has being doing secretarial work for various government organizations, and is now employed in the Triple A office. Mr. Faircloth is a photographer.
          Mr. J. C. Sumerlin and Mrs. Willie Warren were their only attendants. Mrs. Warren being dressed in a powder blue spring suit, her flowers were gardenias.
          After a short honeymoon the young couple are making their home in Alamo where they have rooms with Mr. Tom Privett.

OBITUARIES


KNOX WYSE
          Services for Knox Wyse, former Halls undertaker, who died Thursday afternoon at his home in Pascagoula, Miss., were held Saturday afternoon at Ronk Funeral Home in Alamo.
          Mr. Wyse moved to Pascagoula several years ago.
          He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucille Wyse, and his father, H. L. Wyse, both of Pascagoula.
          Burial was in Halls cemetery.


ALECK D. BURSE
          Funeral services for Aleck D. Burse, farmer of Gates, Route 1, who died at his home February 15, 8:45 a.m., were held at South Fork Baptist Church Monday, February 16 at 2:00 P. M. with Rev. Edgar Williams as the officiating minister. Mr. Burse, who was 61 at the time of his death, was a native of Crockett County. Burial was in Maury City Cemetery with Ronk Funeral Home in charge of the services.
          He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nellie Burse, children, Jessie Burse, Memphis, Willie, Raymond and Bobby Burse, Mrs. Karle Ellis of the Chestnut Bluff community; Mrs. Katherine Williams, Newbern; Elease Burse and Bearnice Burse of the Chestnut Bluff community; a brother, Bedford Burse, Cedar Grove community; and one half sister, Mrs. Emma Cathey of the Cedar Grove community.


BEDFORD GREEN WRIGHT
          Funeral services for Bedford Green Wright, who died at his home February 12, were held Friday, February 13, at 2:30 p.m. at the Providence Baptist Church with Brother Frank Perry as the officiating minister. Mr. Wright was born in Crockett County and was 71 at the time of his death. Burial was in Providence Cemetery with Ronk Funeral Home in charge of the services.
          He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Beula Grace Wright; one son, Mr. Willie Wright, three brothers, Mr. Atlas Wright, Elmer Wright and Almer Wright; one sister, Mrs. Rosa Hefley.


MRS. W. F. LOTT
          Mrs. Ellen Hay Lott, aged 74 died Friday night at her home near Crockett Mills. Mrs. Lott was a lifelong resident of that community and had friends who deeply sympathize with the bereaved husband, W. F. Lott, and son, Leslie Lott, Dyersburg businessman.
          Mrs. Lott was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was before her marriage, Miss Ellen Hay and member of a pioneer family of the county.
          Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Providence by the Rev. George McIlwain of Dyer and burial was in Providence Cemetery with Ronk Funeral Home in charge.


MRS. ROSS ROGERS, SR.
          Mrs. Ross Rogers, Sr. died Monday at her home in Paris at the age of 66. She was the former Miss Annie Edenton and a sister of H. H. Edenton of Alamo. Mrs. Rogers visited in Alamo and friends here. Mr. Edenton has the sympathy of many friends here.

          Born February 16th to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Conley, Jr., of Richland, Wash., a daughter, Nancy Lee.

OBITUARIES


JAMES H. JONES
          James H. Jones, prominent West Tennessee businessman and landowner, died at 6 p.m. Sunday night at a hospital in Brownsville. He was 88.
          Mr. Jones, who had been visiting his daughter, Mrs. Elliott Perry in Brownsville, slipped and fell several months ago. He was taken to the hospital and failed to rally from the shock.
          Services were held at the Baptist Church in Dyersburg Monday with burial in Fairview Cemetery there. Officiating ministers were Rev. Hamilton, Rev. J. T. Barker and Rev. T. R. Williams. Thompson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
          Mr. Jones was born near Tigrett where he spent the greater part of his life. He was the son of the late Confederate Capt. Tom W. Jones and Elizabeth Mitchell Jones, members of pioneer West Tennessee families.
          Mr. Jones held considerable land in and near Tigrett, where he lived until three years ago when his ancestral home burned. He then moved to Trenton.
          Mr. Jones had extensive business interests in Tigrett and was a director in the First Citizens National Bank at Dyersburg, which his father helped to organize.
          In addition to Mrs. Perry, Mr. Jones leaves his wife, Mrs. Mollie Gordon Jones and another daughter, Mrs. C. E. Sweatt of 247 N. Watkins, Memphis.


CYNTHIA ANN JINES
          Funeral services for Cynthia Ann Jines, who died at her home in Humboldt, February 18th at 2:45 p.m., were held February 19 at 2 p.m. at the Harris Grove Methodist Church. Burial was in Climer Cemetery with Ronk Funeral Home in charge of the services. Mrs. Jines was 76 at the time of her death.
          She is survived by her children; Mrs. Dashie Sipes, Lexington; Robert Jines, Florida; O. M. Jines, Richard Jines, Mrs. Dora Williams and Jake Jines all of Humboldt.


MRS. C. C. SMITH
          Services for Mrs. C. C. Smith were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ, Friendship, R. E. Black, Church of Christ minister of Maury City officiating. Burial was in Belle Vernon Cemetery with Sudbury Funeral Home in charge.
          Mrs. Smith, the widow of the late C. C. Smith, Friendship merchant, was a lifelong resident of Friendship. She died Friday night at the home of her daughters in Barlow, Fla. She was 89, a member of a pioneer family of Crockett County. Mrs. Smith was a devout member of the Church of Christ.
          She leaves three daughters, Mrs. W. C. James of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Mrs. R. J. Blackburn and Mrs. Estelle Grayson of Barlow.
          Out of town visitors for the funeral were: Mrs. Eugene Permenter, Ray Permenter, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Sanford, Bells; Sanford Permenter of Somerville; Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Yearwood, Brownsville, Miss Martha Permenter, Mr. and Mrs. J. Y. Pate, Mrs. Riley, Mr. Barber, Mrs. W. M. Thompson, Dyersburg; Mr. and Mrs. Don Warren, Alfred Conley, Henry Conley, Mrs. Watt Hunt, Mrs. Edgar Boone, Mrs. Eva Speight and son, Dean, Alamo; Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Putman, Mr. and Mrs. James S. Putman, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Smith and son; Mr. Liston Bedwell, Mr. and Mrs. Brothers, Bonicord; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Carter, Iron City, Tenn.; Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Blackburn, Mrs. Estelle Grayson, Barlow, Fla. and Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt Smith, Huntsville, Ala.


BIRTHS, ANNIVERSARY and WEDDING


ALAMO

          Born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Norville of the U. S. Navy at Boston, Mass., on February 6, a son who has been given the name of Robert Wesson Norville, Jr. Robert is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Norville of Alamo.

          Mr. and Mrs. Bill Van Cleave have adopted a daughter who has been given the name of Brenda Carol.

          Born to Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Jordan of Memphis on February 23 at the Memphis Baptist Hospital, a daughter. Mrs. Jordan is the former Nancy Wainright.


WILL CELEBRATE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY
          On March 7, Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Emison, former citizens of Crockett County, will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary. They will hold open house at their home near Brownsville, Tenn., between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m. They will be pleased to see all their friends.


GREEN --- HOOPER
          Miss Ruth Green was married to James H. Hooper on January 4 at Corinth, Miss. Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey King of Elizabeth were their only attendants.
          Mrs. Hooper is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Green of Tigrett and a senior at Friendship High School.           Mr. Hooper is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Hooper of the Elizabeth community is a farmer.
