MARGARET ANN WAINWRIGHT, born October 23, 1823 in North Carolina and died March 31, 1896 in Alamo, Crockett County, TN. She was a daughter of John Wainwright and Martha Jones.

Not too much is known about Margaret Ann Wainwright but will tell what I know.

She is remembered in her father's will in the Distribution of Property dated May 11, 1842 in "Crockett (Haywood) Co., TN Deeds 1785-1872 by Maxine Mayo.

In the Wainwright Family Notes handed down, it mentions that her mother, Martha Jones was part of the family that Settled Jonesborough, TN. We have not been able to verify this information. However, a DAR friend said that Al and Willie Jones founded Jonesborough and were sons of Robert Jones. Robert Jones's youngest son was William. Willam disappeared and no one knows what happened to him and it could be his children.

John Wainwright married a Sarah or Susan first time and had one little girl. It is said very definitely that she was a sister to Martha Jones.

Martha Ann had 8 brothers and sisters, one of whom was Zachariah Wainwright who married Espree Clemens in 1872 and Espree is a first cousin to Mark Twain. The Clemens came to a Wainwright Family Reuinion in 1999 in Crockett County.
