September 23 2004

Berlean Lamb, age 86 of Lake City died Sept. 23 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was born March 5, 1918 in Knox County to the late William Tell and Irene Estella Waddell Lamb. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He loved old cars, building and woodworking. He was the founder of Green Valley Truck Stop and Lamb's Inn Motel and Restaurant. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence Lamb and Rev. Bill Lamb. He is survived by his sons, Berlean "Jake" Lamb, Jr. and wife, Mary Lou, William Joe Lamb, Roger Lamb, all of Clinton; daughters, Rita Jean Beach and husband, Tom, Richfield, NC, Linda Wells, Clinton; sister, Opal Hickey, Clinton; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services were Sept. 25 at Hatmaker Funeral Home with Rev. David Hanes officiating. Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Wilma Darlene Lambdin, age 58, of Clairfield, Tn. passed away Saturday Nov. 6, 2004 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville, Tn. She is survived by three daughters: Tina Crawford and husband Jimmy of Clairfield, Tammy Corbin of Goshen, IN., and Michael Head and husband Jason of Jellico. One son: Johnny Webb and wife Betty of Bristol, Tn. Seven grandchildren: Keith Marlow of Clairfield, Kacey Marlow of Clairfield, Christopher Corbin of Goshen, IN., Emily Webb of Bristol, Lucas Webb of Bristol, Susan Head of Jellico and Abigail Webb of Bristol. One brother: Michael W. Gibson of Speedwell; one sister: Eva J. Brewer of Speedwell. One half brother: Willard Gibson of Baltimore, Maryland. Two half sisters: Beatrice of Ohio and Mae of Baltimore, Maryland; a host of other relatives and friends. Family called the Funeral Home on Monday from 6-9 PM. Harp Funeral Home of Jellico, Tn. Was in charge of the arrangements.

Alonzo K. Lansden 71 of Route 1 Clairfield died at Appalachian Regional Hospital, Middlesboro Ky., Monday at 2 p.m. He was a member of the Buffalo Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florida Davidson Lansden of Route 1 Clairfield three sisters Mrs. Minnie Swaney of Plymouth Mich., Mrs. Maude Miller of Chicage Ill., and Mrs. Nell Brown of Lafollette two grandchildren and two great grand children. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Ellison Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Arthur Lambdin. Burial will be in Jellico Cemetery.

William "Marshall" Lasley, - age 71, of Seymour, passed away June 4, 1998, at his home. He was retired from the University of Tennessee and served 21 years for Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Veteran of U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Caryville, Tenn. Preceded in death by parents, Sherman and Dora Lasley; brother, Clifford Lasley; sisters, Thelma Chitwood and Frances Lasley. Survivors: wife, Jessie Lasley; sons, Curtis, Joe, Bill and Mike Lasley; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jeffery Land; grandchildren, Zach and Jessica Land, Branden Lasley, Amanda Reagan; brothers, Willard, Herman, Ray, Charlie, Frank Lasley; several nieces and nephews. Funeral 1 p.m. Saturday, Berry Chapel, Rev. Glen Peachtree officiating. Interment Galilee Cemetery. Military honors will be by East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. Vera Pauline Lay, - age 67, of Caryville, Cherry Bottom Community, departed this life, January 9, 1998, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. She was a member of Cherry Bottom Church, Eastern Star 226 Coal Creek Lodge. SHe was preceded in death by father, Kelly D. Silcox; sister, Deloris Eder; and grandson, Kevin Lay. She is survived by devoted husband of 51 years, Ben Boyd Lay of Caryville; sons and daughters-in-law, Orgel and Carolyn Lay of Caryville, Eldon and Barbara Lay of LaFollette; daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Ron Worthington of Lake City; grandchildren, Keith and Beverly Lay of Jacksboro, Amanda and Josh Daniels of Knoxville, Travis Worthington of Lake City, Tausha and Shannon Parrott of LaFollette; mother, Sadie Silcox of West Union, Ohio; sisters, Joyce Blankenship of Winfield, Tenn., Goldie Byrd of Michigan, Osa Jordan of West Union, Ohio; brothers, Charles W. and J.T. Silcox of Michigan; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday at Cherry Bottom Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Howard and Rev. Edna Montana Guinn Large, 97, of LaFollette died November 29th, 2002 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County.She was preceded in death by husbands, Andrew Billingsley and Howard Large. son, Dick Large, daughter, Coleen Honas, parents, William Allen and Martha Thomas Guinn; brothers, Charlie and Tom Guinn; sisters, Oneda Stamps and Lucille Slusher.Mrs. Large is survived by her sons, Samuel Billingsley, LaFollette, Jack Billingsley, New Tazwell, Tom Large, Las Vegas, NV; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.Funeral services were December 2nd in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Reverends Ralph Cordell and Ray Graham officiating.Interment was in Duncan Cemetery.

Artie Minton Lay, 93, of LaFollette, entered into her well deserved heavenly rest on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at St. Mary's Health and Rehab of Campbell County. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. Artie was a gentle, devout Christian lady who is leaving to her family and friends an outstanding legacy of what a Christian should strive to be in this life. She accepted the Lord Jesus into her heart as a young adult and had been a member of the Indiana Avenue Baptist Church for the past 45 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Lay; her parents, Sam and Nettie Minton; her 12 sisters and brothers, and her son-in-law, Harold Jenkins. Mrs. Lay is survived by a large and loving family: her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Shirley Lay of Rockford, Ill.; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda Jenkins of Louisville, Ky., Betty and Ron Tidwell of LaFollette, Charlene and Donnie Jones of Oliver Springs, and Barbara and Joe Powell of Louisville, Ky.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Vernie Minton of Middlesboro, Ky.; special nephew, Arthur Massengill of Cincinnati, Ohio; a niece and her husband, Eula and Glen Miracle of Spring City; and a host of other special friends and relatives. The family of Artie Lay would like to thank and recognize special friends and caregivers Georgia Shepard and Jodi Whalen. The family will honor the homegoing of Artie Lay from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004. A praise service will follow at 8 p.m. at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church in LaFollette. The pastor Rev. Mark Partin and Mrs. Lay's grandson, the Rev. Matthew Jones, will officiate. Grandsons and a great-grandson will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be at noon Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at the Baird Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 580 S. Frank Lay, -Was born January 12, 1882 and died September 6, 1965 at the age of 83 years and 7 months.  He was a member of the Elk Fork Church for 55 years and was the Choir Leader for many years and a faithful member until death.  He leaves to mourn his passing 6 children, 4 daughters - Mattie lay of Baltimore, Maryland, Grace Shutley of Baltimore, Maryland, Marie Lay of Elk Valley, Tennessee, and Evis Murray of Elk Valley, Tenn.; 2 sons - Jones Lay of Washington, D.C. and Enis Lay of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.  We feel our loss is his eternal gain in glory.

George W. Lay, of Jellico died Dec. 22, 1972 at the Lafollette Community Hospital. He is survived b three daughters Mrs. Violet Criscillis of Pineknot, Ky., Mrs. Rosetta Osborne of Jellico and Mrs. Ella Jean McMoy of Sidney, Oh; six sons, Earnest, Vines, and Bill all of Belding Mich., G.D., of Knoxville, Arliss of Chicago, Ill., Truman of Stanton, Mich.; 44 grandchildren; 52 G-grandchildren; one GG-grandchild; one brother, Ken Lay of Stearns, Ky., one half-brother, Andrew Lay of Harlan Ky. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Crouches Creek Church Of God by the Rev. Johnny Hatfield anbd the Rev. John Bunch. Burial was in Dulling Cemetery. Harp Funeral Home of Jellico was in charge of arrangements.

Ulysses Lay, -73 of Elk Valley passed away Monday afternoon June 4th at Veterans Hospital, Johnson City.  A member of Elk Fork United Baptist Church.  Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Pernie York Lay; sons, James L. and Austin E. of Cincinnati; four daughters, Mrs. Geneva Clevenger, Ypsitanti, Mich. and Mrs. Pearl Hatmaker, Wayne, Mich., Mrs. Bertha Long, Elk Valley, Tenn., Mrs. Janice Rhodus, Cincinnati; brothers, McKinley and Roscoe Lay, both of Scott County.  Funeral services 2 p.m. Wednesday June 6th at Elk Fork United Baptist Church, Rev. Roe Chitwood officiating.  Interment Elk Fork Cemetery.  Body will remain at Martin Funeral Home, Lake City, where family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Benjamin Franklin Lemarr, - age 67, of LaFollette, passed away Friday, August 20, 2004 at St. Mary's of Campbell Co. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He was a Mason and member of LaFollette Masonic Lodge 623 F&AM. Preceded in death by wife Bertha LeMarr, parents Dave & Bertha LeMarr, brothers, Tom & Ewing (Bud) LeMarr, sisters, Marie Carmany, Jewell Monicke & Lorian Lemarr. Survivors: sons: Franklin & Bobby LeMarr, both of LaFollette, and Gene E Wallace of Jasper, Tenn.; daughters JoAnn Williamson & Judy Lee both of LaFollette, Lorian Ross, of Deer Lodge, TN.; brothers: Lowell & Floyd LeMarr, of LaFollette; sisters: Ella Mae LeMarr & Joyce Franklin, of LaFollette; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; lots of nieces & nephews and a host of relatives & friends and a very special friend Evelyn Ridenour. Funeral service: 2 p.m. Monday Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Rev. Jimmy Griffith & Rev Ronnie Freeman officiating. Interment: Well Springs Cemetery. Genevieve (Genny) Neal Leondadt, age 76, passed away October 30, 2004 after an extended illness. Preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, William Clifton Leonhardt Jr., Son, William David Leonhardt and parents Harold Herbert and Enna Neal. Genny was a lifelong resident of Caryville, Tn. She graduated from Jacksboro High School with honors. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Caryville #415, and Member of Caryville Methodist Church. Genny retired as an Administrative Assistant for Campbell County Judge Jack Alexander and had the distinction of being acting Judge for three months to fill Judge Alexander’s unexpired term due to his illness.Survivors: sisters; Mrs. Virginia Lee and husband Elmer, Barbara Davis and husband Richard. Nieces; Beth Palmer, Cindy Bryant and Lori Byrne. Nephew; Scott Lee. Great-nieces; Peyton Palmer and Kiley Byrne. Great-nephews; Tanner Lee, Preston, Parker, Pryce Palmer, Sean and Ryan Bryne.The family received friends on Wednesday, Nov. 3, from noon till 2 PM at Cross Funeral Home and funeral services followed at 2 PM with Rev. Ama Jean Lester, age 77 of Corbin, KY, formerly of Newcomb died Oct. 23, 2004. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Maria Lester. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lester, Corbin, KY; sisters, Barbara avidson and husband, Don, Columbus, OH, Betty Walker and husband, John Mason of OH; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were Oct. 25 at the Llewellyn Funeral Home with Rev. Don Davidson officiating. Interment was in the Douglas Cemetery. Llewellyn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Last Rites October 24 for Mrs. Belle Lester
Mrs. Belle Lester, age 93 years, 6 months, and 6 days, passed away Thursday October 22 at a house in Danville, Kentucky. Mrs. Lester, formerly of Jellico, was making her name at the time of her death at the home of her son, William Lester and wife at Pound, Virginia. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church and was a resident of Jellico for many years.
Survivors; two daughters Mrs. Mary Richmond of Kinsport, Tn and Mrs. Cora Collier, Payne Gap, Virginia; four sons William Lester, Pund, Va. Albert Lester, Detriot, Michigan, Fred Lester Crossville, Tn., Burch Lester of Dorton, Kentucky and a number of grand children, and great grand children and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Ellisons Funeral Chapel in Jellico on Saturday October 24 at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Elmer Elliott of Corbin conducted the services. A short services was held at Pound on Friday October 23. Pall bearers; L.A. Campbell, Guss Wirtz, Jess Dunaway, Elmore Branum, Rev. George Ivey, Francis Harp, Burial was in Newcomb Cemetery. Ellisons. Jellico in charge.

David Lynn Longmire, 61, of Medway, Ohio, formerly of LaFollette, died Sunday, October 24 at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was a member of the LaFollette First Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by; parents, Alvin and Rico Longmire; and brothers, Jackie Ray Longmire, and Kyle Longmire. Survivors include; sisters, Donna Davis of Medway, Ohio; and Uldean Roberts; brothers, Henry Longmire, and Jerry Longmire, both of Stratford, New Jersey.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 30 at LaFollette First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Malcolm King officiating. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the LaFollette First Presbyterian Church or the American Heart Association. Walters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. 


September 29, 1999

The Rev Leonard Loveday, 80, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Sept 29, 1999, at his home.  The Rev Mr Loveday was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Clinton and had served as the church's pastor in earlier years.  He helped establish Community Baptist Chruch in Oliver Springs and also Guiding Star Baptist Church in Lake City, and served as pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church as well as other Baptist churches in the area.  He had also worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority as an electrician for 10 years.  Born in Anderson County on May 19, 1919, he was the son of David and Mary Hooks Loveday.  Before his illness, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family.  His wife;  Mary J Comer Loveday, died in 1998.  The Rev Mr Loveday is survived by four daughters;  Lillie Mae Jones and her husband, Duluth, Velma Copeland and her husband, Homer, and Maggie Jo Bunch and her husband, George, and Gale Taylor and her husband, Roy, all of Clinton;  and his brother Lester Loveday, of Maryville.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren;  10
great-grandchildren;  one great-great-granddaughter;  and by several nieces and nephews.  Josh and Justin Elliott and Andrew McGhee all of Clinton were considered special friends.  In addition to his wife and parents;  two other daughters, Clara Loveday and Maletta Elizabeth Gregory died earlier.  The funeral will be held at 2 PM Saturday, Oct 2 in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral home in Clinton with the Rev Clifford Fraker and the Rev Ronnie McBee officiating.  Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, Oct 1, at the
funeral home.

Mary Jane Loveday, - age 84, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, October 22, 1998, at the Methodist Medical Center
 in Oak Ridge.  She was born in April 15, 1914 in Campbell County.  She was a charter member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church.  She was a devoted wife and loving mother.  Preceded in death by daughters;  Meletta Elizabeth Gregory and Clara Loveday;  parents, James and Martha Ford Comer.  Survivors:  husband of 61 years;  Rev Leonard A Loveday, Clinton;  daughters and sons-in-law, Lilly Mae and Duluth Jones, Clinton, Velma and Homer Copeland, Clinton, Maggie Jo and George Bunch, Clinton, Gail and Roy Taylor, Clinton;  sisters, Bertha Comer, LaFollette, Bess Burris, Knoxville, Ruth Wilson, LaFollette, Lena Tate, Lenoir City;  special friend, Andrew McGhee, Clinton;  nine grandchildren;  12 great-grandchildren;  and one great, great-granddaughter;  several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.  The Loveday family

Maggie H. Lovett, 94, of Jacksboro, died Friday, June 2 at LaFollette Medical Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by; husband, Moses H. Lovett, Sr.,; sons, Winfred Byrd, and an infant son; an infant daughter; parents, Henry B. and Martha Clotfelter Queener; brothers, Leonard, John, and Carl Queener. Survivors include; sons, Moses Lovett, Jr. of Lithia Springs, Georgia, Johnny Byrd, and Marshall Byrd, both of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; daughters, Mattie Lou Nance, Jo Blankenship, and Grace Turner, all of Jacksboro; sisters, Murle Baird of Jacksboro, Thelma Tiller, Mary Tiller, and Gladys Miller, all of LaFollette; twenty-two grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 4 at Cross Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Parker officiating. Interment followed in Jacksboro Cemetery.
