You are very fortunate to be able to read this diary, which is a first-hand account of one soldier's story of serving in Co E of the 4th TN Cav. Thanks much to Barbara Anderson [email protected] for providing me with a copy of this wonderful document!
Unfortunately I am not able to place this excellent work online, as it is a bit too long. However, I am extremely grateful to Keith Brandon for revealing its existence to me, and for providing me with a copy.
Alexander Eckel was a distinguished lawyer and gentleman from Jefferson Co., Tennessee who served in Co C of the 4th TN Cav, and who wrote the only known regimental history of the 4th. He also wrote several other books, including one about his imprisonment at Andersonville, and one about the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic).
I am extremely anxious to acquire copies of the latter two books written by Alexander Eckel. If you know of copies of these which are available, I would be grateful if you would please contact me with information about them.
I am writing a book about the 4th, which is called "Company K", and is specifically about the soldiers who served in Co K of the 4th. My book will incorporate data extracted from the pension applications of those soldiers and their families, to tell the story of how those men and their survivors lived their lives. If you have any information which relates to this topic which you'd be interested in sharing, I'd be grateful to hear from you.
