SPRUILL FAMILY WILLS
RICHARD SPRUILL
July 22, 1840
In the name of God Amen I Richard SPRUILL of the County of Tyrrell
and citizen of North Carolina being of sound mind do make ordain and declare
this instrument of writing to be my last will
and testament revoking all others
ITEM 1 My desire is that my Executors sell such property as can
be best spared to satisfy all of my just debts
ITEM 2 The ballance of my property I lend unto my beloved wife
Emetia (sic) SPRUILL during her life or widowhood and at her death
to be disposed of as follows
ITEM 3 I give and bequeath at the decease of my wife Emelia
SPRUILL to my daughter Permelia TWIDY one bed and furniture
and this now in her possession to her heirs forever.
ITEM 4 I give and bequeath to my daughter Louis CAROON at
the decease of my wife one bed and furniture and stead to her and her heirs
for ever.
ITEM 5 It is my desire at the death of my wife Emelia SPRUILL
for the whole of my estate not heretofore disposed of to be equally
divided among my heirs the names of them is as follows
Abigail TARKENTON, Nancy CAHOON, Samuel SPRUILL, Permelia TWIDY,
John SPRUILL and Louis CAROON.
LASTLY I nominate and appoint my beloved wife Emelia SPRUILL and
my son John SPRUILL my executors to this my last will and testament
in witness I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 22th day of July
1840.

This will was exhibited in open court & proved by the oath of Saml
LEIGH the subscribing witness thereto ??? to be valid. At the same
term appoint Emily SPRUILL executrix named and quoth.
